The Bridges of Madison County
« on: August 21, 2012, 10:31:06 AM »
What a complete misappropriation of engineering and materials.  Why the hell would you ever put a roof on a bridge?

Cons:  Your bridge now has to be bigger to hold up the additional weight of the roof.  The roof serves no function.  You can't fish or jump off one into the water.  You can't stand in the middle and look down in the water.  Wasps like to build homes in there.

Pros:  None.

Pros: they look great in pictures
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

The enclosure acts as weather protection over the working part of the structure. For example, a bridge built entirely out of wood, without any protective coating, may last 10 to 15 years. Builders discovered that if the bridge's underpinnings were protected with a roof, the bridge could stand for 70 or even 80 years.

Protip:  Stop building bridges out of wood.

Also, sounds like someone's wife made him watch Bridges of Madison County or actually travel to see some covered bridges located in Madison County  .

Sorry guys.  I just got really upset that I had to wait out a downpour by being stung by hundreds or maybe millions of wasps.

So you want to protect the wooden bridge by building a large wooden structure around it?  What keeps the protective wooden structure from needing replaced every 10 to 15 years?

Its cheaper and more effecient to throw up a new plywood roof every 15 years than to rebuild the entire bridge.

The wasps. They hold it up with nests and ill intent.

I thought the original bridge, uncovered, would last 10 to 15 years.  Is the entire bridge made of plywood?

The roof doesn't have to bare as much weight as the bridge, so the water damage doesn't cause as many problems.

forget the bridges and the covers, and just build ramps.
