Something is clearly going on with Tay Bender, but we're getting conflicting information. Based on the information we've been given, my guess is, like many kids, Tay is going through a rough patch with some homesickness. Some say he isn't in Manhattan right now, but people close to him claim to know nothing about it. I don't think the poster "Spaces" is entirely wrong but I also don't think anything has been decided at this point.

No one on this board has documented Bender's faults as much I have, but at the end of the day he ended up signing with K-State.


So lets look at the mental angle of this deal. I've never been a big fan of leaving high school in December. Bender is a poster child of why kids shouldn't be doing it. The word is closure. He never got it.


He never looked himself in the mirror, before he left Lincoln, and evlauated what was in front of him. Even today he's all about me, me, me. Now its me, me, me and his high school senior girlfriend. Not being responsible to himself or K-State. This isn't a homesick deal this is a me, me, deal.


Why would this crop up now ?


Right when the heat starts to get turned up. A good battle for the number two spot and he turns and runs. Chances are he would been redshirted anyway, but now even if he returns it boils down to trust. Hell he went through the spring academic semester, winter conditioning drills, spring practice, summer school, summer 7 on 7 drills and nearly 2 weeks of fall camp.


We live in difficult time for coaches who have to deal with guys like Bender who wanted a one way street of promises. We never recruited another qb promising Bender he would be the only one in the class of 2012 recruits. He was also one of the first to give his commitment to K-State. As a side note I am equally bothered by kids that commit early as well.


When you recruit a kid because he meets a great dimentional level it seems great at the time, but its that 6 inches between your ears that matter the most. What is that 6'3 210 lbs 4.4 speed doing for us today ?

there could be a members only board that takes a small number of posts, not money, to gain access to. and the threads from it would be moved to the general board after 24 hours.
