I know they are bad in baseball but how effective could a person be in football if they play an entire 12 game season with one?

Usually only hurts when your arm is above your shoulder.

I tore mine in college as a baseball pitcher.  Your rotator cuff helps to keep your shoulder stable as well as move up and down and rotate.  I would worry that a nice hit on his shoulder with a torn rotator cuff would make it much easier to dislocate his shoulder.  My thoughts on this and a buck will get you a cup of coffee.

I tore my rotor cuff twice over the many years I have been alive.  Hurts like a bitch and takes forever to heal.

I've had a partial-tear in my RC for 6 years (got it junior yr HS). Didn't want to miss any time in sports so I just lived with it. Then I came to college and didn't play football or wrestle anymore so I said screw it, I can live with this. Only hurts when I throw a football or baseball as hard as I can.

Just make sure you keep using those strength bands to target the muscles around your shoulder to support it for the next 40-50 years.
