Colorado Springs - rd former townie bait thread
« on: July 25, 2012, 12:26:55 AM »
Staying at the Broadmoor until Saturday.  All day tomorrow free (no high level elite meetings) - planning on golfing here then hitting the gym.  Few questions for remainder of my free time:

WTF is Seven Falls and is it worth anything?
Have already seen GOTG, I liked but won't use free time on.
Would love to hit a brewery.
Authentic mexican dining locals?
What is the town up the mountain that has some motto like "Keep BLANK Weird"?  Was there about 7 years ago and bar hopping was fun.
Where can I get a haircut?
Any other things I should hit?

I think there is a mexican barber restaraunt/barber shop on main street.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

Great Irish food at Jack Quinn's downtown.  Get the Shepherd's Pie.

There is a decent mexican joint just west of the Broadmoor called Carlos Miquels.  Good food but nothing special.  The Loop in Manitou Springs is better but a longer drive.

-phantom canyon is the only brewpub place that i know of. it's decent but nothing amazing. i watched the kstate/nebraska snow game there up on the second floor.

-seven falls is ok and you couldn't really be any closer to it. basically just a bunch of stairs and a nature trail.

-the town you are probably thinking of is manitou springs. it'd be fun if you were with your wife or something but not sure i'd solo trip there.

There's a club on the main street that has like 8 different bars inside it. One of the bars had soap bubbles. It's a must see.

Cave of the Winds is pretty neat if you're into caves and stuff.

Pike's Peak is neat if you have the time and haven't been before. Went up the cog railway last time, it was really cool to go up that side of the mountain. Seats can be a bit uncomfortable on the steeper climbs, though. I've never driven to the top so I'm not sure how it compares. Have a donut if you go.

Seven falls wasn't anything spectacular, like Daris said you don't get really close.

I thought the cog railway was cool as well.  Saw some pretty interesting wildlife on the trip up and back.  Would have been better if they would let you drink on the trip.   :drink:

My grandparents lived here for a long time when they were around so I have done the PP thing and done the Cae of Winds thing as well as Cripple Creek.  Just looking for townie stuff.

Mrs tdaver and I did this food tour downtown a couple years ago.  It looks like they have added the brewery tour and Manitou Springs tour since then.  It was pretty fun and you get plenty of food.  Our group was actually all locals except us.  Search for coupons.

Definitely don't do Seven Falls. Manitou is alright. Some good hole in the wall restaurants. Phantom Canyon is good. Their food is better than their beer. Trinity has good brew and decent food. As for Mexican, it's hit or miss. Salsa Brava is my favorite mexican place, but it's not really authentic. El Taco Rey is a downtown hole in the wall that is perfect for lunch. Pueblo Viejo and the Loop are good too. But yes, JW was right, Jack Quinns is a great pub with good food. Get the chips.
