Authentic Mexican food
« on: July 23, 2012, 12:48:46 PM »
Outside of someone talking about how athletic their 8 year old is, is there anything more annoying than p eople talking bad about a fine Mex restaurant because it's not 100% "authentic"? No. I never hear anyone talk about the authenticity of any other food, otoh the butthurt really swells when it comes to Mexican.

michiganders seemed especially obsessed with degree of authenticity, with any ethnic food.

If you haven't eaten some 50 year old lady's Mole you haven't had authentic anything. Get on my level.

If you haven't eaten mole in Juarez and gotten a debilitating case of the shits afterwards, you haven't had authentic anything. AbeFroman can't even be called the king of sausage outside of chicago

Not real sure I guess. Generally speaking, if I'm eating food, my only criteria for judgment is whether it tastes good.

Racism confirmed. Boycotting La Hacienda until racist tendancies and child labor cease.

Ironically, I was just in La Hacienda and I think, out of 30 people, there may have been two who spoke English as our first language. (I was served promptly and politely, not racist FWIW).  What I'm trying to say is that daris has done a great job promoting this place and there are obviously a lot of ESL people reading the board.  We should probably include a translate function to make it easier for this significant group of goEMAW / La Hacienda supporters.

racism or anti-serial killer / pedophile?  Might be time to look in the mirror and decide whether or not you are a friend of goEMAW or not.

agree with the op.

I also hate seeing "artisan" randomly smacked onto bread that's for sale in chain grocery stores, walmart, etc

tx = more beef-oriented, more inclined to dry rub instead of sauce
ks = more pig-oriented, more inclined to sweet, tangy sauce

Nah Carolina's all about weird vinegary sauce. Think you're right on the meats though, just looked that up and KC uses a wide variety of meats. I just said pig because that was my personal experience and it's generally ignored down here so it seems more prevalent in comparison.

I would consider Arthur Bryant's and Gates to be the two classic KC barbecue places that best define the Kansas City barbecue style, and both of their sauces are vinegar based.

Maybe I should check the La Hacienda thread, but I would like to hear specific accounts of these so called racist incidents.

Huh. Well the one time I had gates it came off as kinda sweet to me instead of vinegary. When I had Carolina bbq the vinegar kicked me in the face comparatively.

what is this thread's opinion on lucha's? racist or no racist?
