Andre the Giant
« on: July 02, 2012, 10:24:04 AM »
I would now like to discuss Andre the Giant with you. I find him pretty fascinating, and giants in general. I like to think about how much he drank.

* He once drank 119 beers in 6 hours.
* He once drank 156 16oz beers on one sitting.
* The box office smash hit My Giant was loosely based on him.
* He threw boulders in the Princess Bride
* Here is a neat picture of him holding a beer can

Here is a link to other fun facts about Andre the Giant http://freaksatnight.wordpress.com/2008/10/13/andre-the-giant-fun-facts/. Thank you for discussing him with me. Please feel free to use this thread to talk about other Giants or 80's wrestlers.

This is great.

Quote
he treated his friends well, and always picked up the bar tabs and dinner checks: once, a friend of his slipped away to secretly pay the entire table’s bill, but upon handing his credit card to the waiter, suddenly felt himself being lifted off the ground, carried back to the table, and deposited back in his chair “like a little boy.” this friend was Arnold Schwarzenegger

Can you imagine him playing in the NFL? Just hand the ball off to him and tell him to run full speed ahead. Would have broken every rushing record in the book. Would have blocked almost every field goal and don't even get me started on him playing nose tackle.

Also, he's pretty funny in "The Princess Bride."
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

I don't think his knees would have made it through a single NFL season.

I think its sad that all he really wanted to do was ride horses, but he couldn't, because he was a giant.  :frown:

Andre jumped to let the Hulk slam him. Hulk could never lift Andre otherwise.

Yeah, and I don't think his kneck would have made it through several wrestling seasons packed with body slams and having chairs smashed against his face. Gimme a break, he was a tank. He would have dominated the NFL.

As I recall he was deathly afraid of snakes.  Like, he would have a real heart attack or something.  It's real because I saw it with my own eyes during a WWF event.

"Two tall guys and a small guy. The one on the left was a 13-time NBA All-Star who apparently had sex with over 20,000 women. The one in the middle was dubbed Mr. Olympia seven times, served two terms as Governor of California, made eight figures as a Hollywood action star, and also had a lot of sex (sometimes with unattractive housekeepers). The guy on the right has fantastic pants and once drank 16 bottles of plum wine (in four hours) before a triple-header wrestling showdown in Japan–with no discernible effect.

That last guy sounds pretty amazing, eh? For more about Andre the Giant and his amazing feats of drinking, check out this article from The Selvedge Yard."

Wichita State basketball legend Paul Wight (aka "The Big Show") was originally marketed in wrestling as Andre the Giant's son!

Saw Andre the giant lose to the Ultimate Warrior at the Kansas Coliseum in the 80's. Match took something like 20 seconds.  UW went rope to rope clothes lining Andre the giant then pinned him and ran off.  Worst main event ever. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't even the real Ultimate Warrior.  I was like 5 years old and I still remember thinking how much of a rip-off that was.

How big was that kid from Topeka that was in high school in the early 2000s?  I remember him being like 7'3", but that could be my memory sensationalizing it.  It just remember watching him play basketball and having a hard time running from foul line-to-foul line.  I think his last name started with a "G".  Watching him run was like watching one of those animitronic shows at Chuck E. Cheese.

Did some more of my own research and found him.  Daniel Gilcrest, listed at between 7'7.5" and 7'7".  Played Andre in the 2007 film Andre: Heart of the Giant.

He was a giant, Dlew. How many giants do you know?  That's right, none.  So you should probably leave the drinking facts to the guys on the internet who probably know tons of giants and can support this claim as true.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
