Didn't know where to post this.  Figured I'd better start a new thread instead of the Smoke Your Cigars thread. 

I've got questions. 

It's being reported that the new playoff sites will rotate annually between 6 locations.  Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, Rose + 2 others.  The top 4 rated teams will be matched up at 2 of these locations.  What teams will play in the other 4 bowls?  And how will they be selected?  For instance, say the Fiesta and Orange bowl are the chosen semifinal locations.  Who decides who plays in the Sugar, Rose, etc. since there is technically no more BCS affiliation and no more "automatic qualifier" status?

Also, how does this affect the new Champions Bowl between SEC and BigXII and the Rose Bowl between the Pac12 and big 10?  Say the Rose Bowl is the chosen site for a semifinal in a given year.  Obviously, this bowl game will not necessarily match a big 10 and Pac12 team.  Will a seperate, stand-alone Rose Bowl game still be played in that given year between the top teams from the Pac12 and big 10 that aren't in the playoff?  Kind of like the National Championship is currently set up - where the BCS bowl is played and then a week later the NC game is played at the same location.  Same with the Champions Bowl between the SEC and BigXII.  Will the top teams from our conferences - not invited to the playoff - still play eachother each year? 

As I stated earlier, what will be the criteria and who will be choosing the teams to play in these non playoff bowl games?  When will they be played?

There are no answers yet is the answer.  They have the basic premise but they haven't nailed that crap down yet.  At least that's my understanding.

That's what I thought.  But I was an elite suite at the SKC game the other night and my typically-ITK friend was trying to definatively explain the new system - none of which has been corroborated by any article I've ever seen.  Colored me confused.

Well, this is confusing to me.  Obviously the Pac12 and big 10 are contracted with the Rose Bowl.  Well, what happens to that contract in the year where the playoff is held at the Rose Bowl?   

I thought that this is why the big 10 and Pac12 were originally opposed to the playoff.  They wanted to keep their guaranteed, annual matchuop in the Rose.

Some grumblings that he Rose Bowl is willing to pass on a year or two of hosting a national semifinal in favor of hosting the Rose Bowl instead.  It sounds like some years they may pass and take a risk that a that the BigTen and Pac-12 will each be able to supply a team by either their champ not being in top 4 or their 2nd place team being selected as an at-large.

Also, this idea that the committee will pick the best teams and tell the bowls who they have to pick from is effing crazy.  Are they going to pick the best at-large teams and ratings be damned?

I don't think the committee will pick all of the teams for the remainder of the 6 rotating "access bowls," or whatever they'll be called.  Conferences will still have guaranteed spots in the access bowls, i.e., BigXII and SEC are contracted with the Champions Bowl, big 10 and Pac12 are contracted with the Rose Bowl, and I believe the ACC is contracted with the Orange.  The most I could find on this topic was from a pretty vague ESPN article... 

Tuesday's decision possibly could squeeze the Big East out of the postseason, as its champion is no longer guaranteed a spot in one of the six major bowls. The "automatic qualifiers" label also will disappear in the new system and those programs will have no guaranteed access to the new structure. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby called it an "open marketplace for all schools."
