Gotta admit (Ahearn)
« on: June 26, 2012, 12:27:03 PM »
that it makes me feel a little warm and fuzzy inside to see this picture.   Having spent a lot of time in that building, even when it was still used for basketball.

I've always wondered if times and money and mindsets had been a little different how things would have turned out.

If you've ever been to Duke, you would note some similarities between the placement and setting of Cameron Indoor and Wallace Wade Stadium, to the placement of Ahearn and Old Memorial Stadium.

Move everything not athletic related out of Ahearn with athletics occupying all those offices in the Annex/Ahearn Gym, renovate the Fieldhouse, upgrade the practice courts.   Tear out the pool and move it out to the Rec Complex and turn that facility into a Volleyball Arena.   Enclose Memorial Stadium renovate and expand, and have the whole section between College Heights and Anderson-Sunset and Denison owned by K-State athletics with Football Facility, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Baseball Field located in that.

GTFOOMF with "Parking" there would be all kinds of creative ways to handle that, and don't even bring up tailgating, the Ville is 3 blocks away.

I can't even imagine how amazing it would be to 'pak in Aggieville and only have to walk 3 blocks for the game.

Damnit Dax, now I'm dreaming about all the side benefits of such a complex. Aggieville would extend to Sunset as a true mixed-use business/residential district with several multi-story buildings.

As an added bonus, the locals wouldn't be scared of below grade parking and "gullywashers".

Yeah, I can't help but think this is his fault. I bet he wants there to be another dorm so we don't have to put all those freshman in the Holiday Inn.  :bang:
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

For a long time I was always told the reason why nothing more could be done to Memorial Stadium was the dreaded "gullywasher".

I guess bigger drainage pipes and systems weren't allowed.

That's because they don't have the lower level bleachers set up.

Moving volleyball out of there would have been important to my incredible plans.

Piss off Ell, I'm not one of those "I hate Bramlage, we should have never left Ahearn" types.

It's rough ridin' amazing everyone didn't just pack up and leave after that gullywasher in 53.

Why would we want to play in a place that holds 8000 people max.

While this is a fine idea it would cost too much to renovate Ahearn to suitable needs for Ahearn to be up to code for the NCAA for a Division I basketball game. Though this is a great idea.
Thanks but no thanks,

People who get nostalgic about Ahearn forget that there were some legitimately rough ridin' terrible seats in the lower corners that resulted from the bizarre dimensions of that building.

What part of "renovate the Fieldhouse" confuses some of you people?

Burning Bramlage to the ground would still pretty much leave all the seats intact, go for it.
