Depends on the industry.  I worked in the aerospace/business jet manufacturing industry for 5 years and I never saw a tie except for the ocassional new college grad interview.

Same here in Oklahoma.  The only problem is I don't appear to be the richest because everyone down here has $50,000 in credit card debt and is living paycheck-to-paycheck while spending 50% of their income on boats and trying to buy the biggest lawn mower for their 9,000 sqft yard.

I didn't convey my message properly.  We had more college grads show up in sportcoats/no tie than we did in suits.  It didn't matter if you wore a suit or not.  No one cared in our industry.
