Kansas State Joining The Valley in Men's Basketball
« on: June 14, 2012, 10:19:43 AM »
I really hope there is some truth to the grumblings of us joining the Missouri Valley for Men's basketball, with Notre Dame taking our spot in the Big 12 for Men's basketball.

It's a great fit for HCBW.  I, for one, think it would be great seeing HCBW battle it out with McD's boy's year in and year out.  It's a purer form of basketball...not just a bunch of "running and gunning" and I think that most Kansas State fans will really come to cherish that.

Frankly, I think our recruiting would really pick up as well.  Maybe not in terms of "stars" or "rankings" from the so-called recruiting experts, but definitely in terms of guys who fit the system and will work hard and buy in.

I'm for it.

Yep, the difference between so-called major college basketball and so-called mid-major college basketball is negligible these days as evidenced year in and year out by the NCAA tournament. Joining the Valley would be a lateral move at worst.

obviously the Big 12 is the second best football conference.  but, let's be honest, the Big 12 is a crap basketball conference.  the amount of attention paid to hoops is negligable.  the valley is at least equal to it on a purely basketball basis.

Man, this would really help me out.  Clean break type stuff.  Really help reconcile things.

Nailed it.

This also has to be why Currie is pushing so hard to get us into The Valley for men's basketball.  Personally, I hope women's basketball lands there, but I know there will be quite a few people up in arms if we don't get to play Baylor any longer.  Maybe a non-con game?  :dunno:

i've always felt there is more passion in the valley anyway. plus, the big 12 has always lacked a big name basketball program and i think Creighton would fill that void.

Is there any other Big 12 staff better equipped for the MVC?

I could get behind the Weber hire if this pans out. Shame on me for not seeing Currie's overarching master plan. Guess I'd better get the checkbook ready.

You bet.

Listen folks, as long as Big 12 continues to foster acceptance of "partial membership" with the courtship of Notre Dame, this is not going to go away.

Folks in the know, know that we can have our cake and eat it too.  Keeping football and Olympic sports (plus Equestrian) in the Big 12 will ensure the big payday from the TV deal, while placing Men's Basketball in the Missouri Valley allows us to more closely align with our fanbase.  Some were surprised by the oscar Weber hire, and oscar's subsequent re-assembling of his former staffer with DEEP Valley experience....but it was done with a purpose.

Don't be surprised if in two years we are all partying at Laclede's Landing in preparation of Arch Madness!

Yep.  There's going to be egg on a LOT of faces when this all plays out, mine included.  I didn't see it coming.  Count me as "in" on this, however....and yes the checkbook will be ready!

when Self bails for OKie State after this season and Little Bro follows us to MVC, new HC Doc Sadler and co. will certainly give us a run for our money.

In a word, NO.

Fellas, we are probably on the cusp of a Dana Altman-esque domination of the MVC with the staff we have assembled here.

You take a look at the Valley footprint, and it's obviously the sweet spot for HCBW's recruiting.  Look, Texas recruiting is just not going to work for us...we all know that.

I literally could not agree more with the original poster (Pete).

I have a niece that runs a truck stop in Carbondale, IL. Would love to see more of that side of my family in addition to more bounce passes and backdoor cuts.

We can renew the Mizzou St. rivalry with the good Missouri school since we scared the other one off.  :excited:

I think what you are touching on here, and I agree by the way, is that there are TONS of benefits to this move that many in the public (and media, LOL) are not considering (yet).

For example, don't think for a second that it's gone unnoticed by the stakeholders at KSU that Mitch Holthus does the the majority of TV broadcasts for the Valley.  That's a HUGE bonus for most of our constituency.  HUGE.

Is b-ball to the MVC not just the best of EVERY world?

Wow, the immense weight of such a concept kind of makes your knees buckle a little.

Wow . . . I mean just WOW!

This is OT, but I realized as I made the above image that I was remiss in not creating this one earlier:

The names "Weber" and "Lowery" open a LOT of high school gym doors in that footprint, bros.

Sold, we will be pulling so much talent out of Warsaw Missouri that Coach K and Calipari will take note of our recruiting tactics.
