Personally, I don't care if they sell "full strength" beer in grocery stores, etc. There really isn't much of a difference between full and convenience store varieties. Ever wonder why it's about the same price? This is a study from seven years ago:

Comparison of Strong Beer and Cereal Malt Beverage by Alcohol Content
RESULTS OF EXAMINATION
By K.B.I. LAB
     %Ethonal (Alcohol ) by Weight
1 - One 12 oz. can Bud Light (strong)    3.5
2 - One 12 oz. can Bud Light (3.2)    2.8
3 - One 12 oz. can Busch (strong)    3.9
4 - One 12 oz. can Busch (3.2)            3.2
5 - One 12 oz. can Budweiser (strong)    3.9
6 - One 12 oz. can Budweiser (3.2)    3.1
7 - One 12 oz. can Coors (strong)    3.8
8 - One 12 oz. can Coors (3.2)            3.2
9 - One 12 oz. bottle Miller (strong)    3.8
10 - One 12 oz. bottle Miller (3.2)    3.1
11 - One 12 oz. bottle Michelob (strong) 4.1
12- One 12 oz. bottle Michelob (3.2)    3.2
13 - One 12 oz. can Old Milwaukee (strong)    3.9
14 - One 12 oz. bottle Wiedemann (strong)    3.7
15 - One 16 oz. can Colt 45 (strong)    4.1
16 – One 12 oz. bottle Corona (Mexican, strong)    3.6
17 - One 7 oz. bottle Little King (3.2)    3.2

That's not the point, dumbass. With the law in place it essentially shuts microbreweries out of stores b/c they don't have the resources to brew their normal product plus 3.2 beer.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

Wouldn't know, i live in the UK where my local grocery store has a wide selection of wine, beer and liquor any day of the week including Sunday

You can do that in Missouri. Need to pick your spots better.

Also NE

isn't it regulated by county in NE though? i thought there were some weird liquor control laws up there.  similar to how texas does it.

they used to be pretty bad about public intoxication and 1am bar closings too but maybe that's changed

liquor sale laws are state wide.  bar closing time is by municipality.  Starting back in 2010 the cities started to vote in 2AM closing times.

oh my god i cannot believe how many dumbasses in this thread are against making kansas slightly less rough ridin' backwards. do you realize you cannot go anywhere in kansas and buy a bottle of rum and a 2-liter of coke? do you not realize this? when i went to k-state and turned 21 i could not believe that was a real thing. HARD ALCOHOL BELONGS IN GAS STATIONS GD IT!!!

ben ji's random liquor store story

When I went to the game at Auburn we arrived in town and went to get some beers. We asked some people where the closest liquor store was and off we went. When we arrived we were shocked to find absolutely no beer. We asked the guy at the counter where the beer was and he gave us the Stupid yankee look "This is a liquore store son, if you want beer you need to go to the grocery store"

Apparently Alabama has some weird laws where only state run Liquor stores can sell hard alcohol, beer is only available in grocery stores.

Oklahoma liquor stores aren't allowed to refrigerate beer. If you want cold beer, you have to buy the 3.2 stuff from a gas station or grocery store.

Will also allow free sample/tastings at liquor stores. :)

No joking, this is huge for me.  I hate spending craft beer money on a 6er of craft beer I haven't tried before then getting home and finding out I really dislike it.

Grocery stores sell liquor in Missouri. People are saying that if grocery stores can sell beer and wine in Kansas, but not liquor, then liquor stores will raise their liquor prices to cover their loss.

In Pennsylvania, you can buy liquor at liquor stores, but have to go to the local state ABC warehouse to buy beer. Just cases of beer stacked randomly on pallets. I think you can also order beer to go from restaurants, though.

In KC, liquor tends to be ~10% cheaper on the Missouri side than on the Kansas side. Good to live near the state line.

As for the happy hour, we may see better prices for a few hours, but I'm going to miss some of the mid-week all-day specials. Taking off work early on Thursday to hit the $1.50 beer special on the patio about 2 pm was a good time.

i'm right in the middle on this. i agree with jw that i hate laws getting changed that screw with small business owners negatively and retroactively but at the same time those folks had to have known that this was a possibility for the last ten years but they still rolled the dice. their choice.

also i don't think that mhk has a large supermarket that will provide a selection like sd's hyvee so i really don't think i'll benefit much either way. the happy hour thing is interesting but again i live in a college town where there is a happy hour all day every day somewhere. cumulative effect to daris seems to be not much. right?

I think the cumulative effect will be slightly larger than you imagine daris.  The problem with Manhattan specials was never Aggieville, it was always the west side haunts that are now part of my rotation.  Guess what westsiders?  You just got Happy Hours!

then i'd probably just prefer they keep it the old way. let jimmy and tommy and tommy's wife and her sister each own a liquor store in andover or whatever so jw can keep boozing it up on the cheap when he invites them over to his house for pool parties.  no skin off my back or whatever.

tell that to the college kids who just realized the aggieville bars can now do crap like a $10 cover followed by all you can drink Busch Light for 4 hours and other college town happy hour ridiculousness.

Would costco be able to sell liquor in KS now?

In missouri they sell bottles of glenlivet for about $10 cheaper than the liquor stores in ks.

Not bad, could be better. I went to one in South Dakota and they had half price all pints on tap.
