Hey dickheads, take it to the KS liquor sales in grocery stores thread and leave this to happy hour.  Will it be the end of dollar night in aggieville?  I doubt it, at least immediately, but it probably will take away all day specials from many non-college town bars...

i don't think it's like this anymore, but the dark horse in westport used to have 1 dollar drinks after midnight (12am-3am).  it was the greatest thing in the world.  i hope that something like this takes hold in aggieville.

I was there one night last summer and it had $1 PBRs if you bought a $5 wristband.

last time i was there was 2 years ago, but the after midnight thing was no longer 1 dollar, it was 1.50 or 1.75 or something.  rough ridin' inflation.

It's illegal for you to have a drink in your had a second past 2am. So unless they took it to a downstairs bar that cops didn't know about, it didn't go to 2am.

It can always be like You've Got Mail and they can go work for a big store's liquor department.

Oh, man.

holy crap.  a You've Got Mail reference.  my day has been made.

Liquor store owners make very little money on beer. As one of the store owners in MHK said "Beer makes just enough to keep the fridge cold and the lights on." The real profit is in liquor, which will go up in price if you can buy beer at wal-mart and such.

I have a heart on this sort of thing, but anyone who owns a liquor store should have seen this coming years ago.  It's better for everyone else if the grocery stores can sell booze, and better if the big outfits come in.

There are no "good" jobs at liquor stores, except for liquor store owners.  Their shareholder value will quickly be transferred to shareholders of other firms, though they'll be larger.

It's preposterous to argue that simply because liquor store owners have enjoyed a very, very long run of benefits from a fixed market place as a result of foolish government intervention, that this foolish government intervention should continue in perpetuity merely to sustain the life styles of those handful of liquor store owning capitalists.  I mean, the list of unsavory analogous business arrangements that have (thankfully) similarly been toppled is damn near endless.   It's not like these mother fuckers are selling baby formula, for eff's sake.

No sir, I'll take my liquor cheap....and with my pork chops, toilet paper, frozen waffles and charcoal briquettes.

I believe that the first initiative will be for KS to allow sale of "full strength" beer as well as wine. I highly doubt that we will see hard liquor sold in grocery stores in KS in the near future.

Personally, I don't care if they sell "full strength" beer in grocery stores, etc. There really isn't much of a difference between full and convenience store varieties. Ever wonder why it's about the same price? This is a study from seven years ago:

Comparison of Strong Beer and Cereal Malt Beverage by Alcohol Content
RESULTS OF EXAMINATION
By K.B.I. LAB
     %Ethonal (Alcohol ) by Weight
1 - One 12 oz. can Bud Light (strong)    3.5
2 - One 12 oz. can Bud Light (3.2)    2.8
3 - One 12 oz. can Busch (strong)    3.9
4 - One 12 oz. can Busch (3.2)            3.2
5 - One 12 oz. can Budweiser (strong)    3.9
6 - One 12 oz. can Budweiser (3.2)    3.1
7 - One 12 oz. can Coors (strong)    3.8
8 - One 12 oz. can Coors (3.2)            3.2
9 - One 12 oz. bottle Miller (strong)    3.8
10 - One 12 oz. bottle Miller (3.2)    3.1
11 - One 12 oz. bottle Michelob (strong) 4.1
12- One 12 oz. bottle Michelob (3.2)    3.2
13 - One 12 oz. can Old Milwaukee (strong)    3.9
14 - One 12 oz. bottle Wiedemann (strong)    3.7
15 - One 16 oz. can Colt 45 (strong)    4.1
16 – One 12 oz. bottle Corona (Mexican, strong)    3.6
17 - One 7 oz. bottle Little King (3.2)    3.2

lol at every person who has insinuated that this would cause anything to go anywhere but down in price.

Just saying liquor will go up in price if you can't buy it at the grocery store like you can beer and wine. Beer and wine will most definitely go down in price.

Yet Jonathan Hallinan — who represents the fifth generation in his family to operate Hallinan’s Liquors, in Camillus — says the wine-in-grocery-store idea “is keeping me awake at night.” “I don’t know where they’re getting some of these numbers,” Hallinan said.
He estimates 75 to 80 percent of his revenue comes from wine, not liquor. A wine revenue loss of 17 to 32 percent, as predicted by Rickard’s study, could be crippling. He doesn’t think the provisions that would allow him to sell food items or wine glasses could make up for the loss. He also worries because his store is close to a Wegmans and a Target, both of which could start selling wine and, with volume discounts, do it more cheaply than he can. That might drive up the price he charges for liquor or force him out of business.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.
