I sure hope it goes into effect this summer.  This will greatly increase the early drinking crowd in MHK.

I have a liquor store near me that does pretty well in keeping some of the small brewery stuff in stock.  They keep telling people that shop there that if the state allows walmart and others to sell beer, that we can say goodbye to smaller places that sell the small craft beer as they won't be able to sell enough of the redneck swill, due to price competition, to keep the doors open let alone stock and sell some specialty awesomeness from some small brewery in CO.

The only liquor stores that will go out of business are the tiny mom and pop stores in strip malls  :barf:. The big liquor stores like Rymans, MDL, Bergella etc will be fine. One might even argue they can capitalize on it by specializing in the microbrew market.

This.

Kansas also currently prohibits an individual or entity from owning more than one liquor store.

If they repeal that, then bigger competition comes in and prices drop.

Plus, you can buy your booze when you buy your groceries, instead of making an extra stop.

No but I have family and friends that do.  And there are other ways it would affect me financially.  I think it makes more sense to allow alcohol sales everywhere, unless you already have this system in place.  Then you are rough ridin' up people's livelihood.  That is bigger than the simple convenience of making one less stop.  Plus the net effect is your community is trading out decent jobs for shitty jobs.

"Hey, Rickels? This is the KS government. Hey, you know how we haven't allowed alcohol sales above 3.2 anywhere except liquor stores? Well, we're done with that. Yup....yup, you'll probably go out of business. Sorry we were jackasses for so long and this wasn't legal years ago, like when every other state legalized it. Hope you guys can get jobs somewhere else now that you're over 50 and have spent your whole lives getting to know the liquor store business!"

Yeah, who could have seen this coming? I thought this policy would be in place forever, especially since Kansas alcohol policy hasn't changed at all in the last 10 years.

They backed the wrong pony.  No one promised them the law would never change.  It can always be like You've Got Mail and they can go work for a big store's liquor department.

Hey dickheads, take it to the KS liquor sales in grocery stores thread and leave this to happy hour.  Will it be the end of dollar night in aggieville?  I doubt it, at least immediately, but it probably will take away all day specials from many non-college town bars...
