Atlantic Crap Conference (ACC)
« on: May 15, 2012, 09:48:52 AM »
a couple of co-workers and i were talking the other day about this whole acc mumbo jumbo. one is an oklahoma grad and the other is a texas grad. both really good guys like you'd expect. anyway, we all agree that florida state is the only team worth taking from that joke crap conference. we all agreed that they were football elite like kstate and oklahoma and texas and were worthy of joining but were hardpressed to find another acc member that was worthwhile. it was our agreement to add florida state, stop at 11 and then wait for the whole notre dame contract thing to come up for bid againe and then let them join too. i've heard they are chomping at the bit to join a football power conference but don't feel like the sec is a good cultural fit, what with all the rampant racism and  other issues that conference has.

Pretty much except a friend of mine who is a Duke fan said this about FSU:

Good riddance.  Take Miami while you are at it.

I mean, poor FSU is being majorly disrespected.

Surely we can pay for Notre Dame to buy out of whatever contract they're in now and get to 12 with them and FSU by 2013, right?

Have multiple FSU alums around here, and they're simply over-the-top with enthusiasm at the prospect of seeing the Noles take on Elite's like K-State, OU and Texas.

funniest part of the story that i forgot to include...the ups guy is a virginia tech grad and walked into the conversation. he said that they would have to decide between the sec and the big 12 and then i mushed him mid sentence and told him that virginia tech is not taken seriously in serious football discussions because everyone knows that they are smoke and mirrors and schedule cupcakes ooc and once their coach leaves they'll go back to sucking. he threw down the delivery and then ran out of our office in tears without even getting anyone to sign for anything. omg you guys. this guy didn't realize that the acc is a joke fball conference and that nobody takes them seriously because they don't play in a power fball conference.

Can't even bring up non-football elite status of VT/ACC (except FSU) around certain family members.

Frankly, my ONLY concern with adding FSU is whether the image of the Big 12 will be hurt by adding an "ACC school," but I think FSU has distinguished themselves plenty from the rest.

also, the texas guy said that he and some other texas guys were recently kicking around the idea of having the elite football schools in the big 12 (texas, tcu, oklahoma, osu and ksu) break of from the rest of the conference members and then add some other top notch fball schools and make a new conference that only allows schools that are really good at fball. apparently one of them knows deloss and confirmed that this exact plan has already been discussed and set aside but that something happened recently that has brought it back on the table. food for thought.

I think FSU can shake the stink of the ACC off pretty easily.   They'll need to if they want to enter an elite realm with K-State and a few others.

Someone told me a school called clamsen(?) was thinking about riding FSU's coat tails IF we allowed FSU to join. I spit my java in his face I laughed so hard, me and the boys were rolling!

After he left I did some quick google searches for clamson, only thing I found is that apparently our newest member CoalAggy stomped them in  the tangerine bowl last year.

We know some of the same people, obviously.  I think the reason to do this is Notre Dame has said they'd be "all in" for this football elite conference.

it's pretty unimaginable- the value of a conference that's managed to converge notre dame and kansas state, the two most recognizable programs/brands in college football.

people ask me why i think Texas has hitched their trailer to K-State, well the proof is in the pudding, this is why.

now, florida state doesn't have the tradition that we do, and they have struggled the past decade or so, but if given the opportunity, i can see them working their way back into gaining bowl eligibility every few years.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Good points Clams.

I would be open to a Big 12 vs ACC noncon football deal like PAC 12 and BIG10, but I acknowledge that it would basically be cupcake scheduling for us.

I am willing to trade guaranteed wins for good tv matchups, and that's what playing the ACC would do for us.

Obviously the games would all have to be played at Big 12 sites only.

Florida Hayseed Tech? No thanks. Let's get Notre Dame, the only school in the country more nationally recognized than us, and call it good at 11.

I am not going to act like you aren't dead on, but I think we will be forced into taking FSU by Texas Tech.

while i don't disagree with the thinking above, you guys are underestimating the need for "product".  the cable companies need "product" to put on their television stations in order to generate income. in the case of the big12, the product that they are getting is absolute dominating college football with frontline teams like oklahoma, kansas state, texas and tcu. they are getting heisman caliber players like RG3, collin klein and ricky williams. what they need is more "product" to showcase these teams and most computer models show that 12 teams is the minimum needed. we need 12, not 11. go wildcats!

No kidding.  You would think people from such a "prestigious academic conference" would understand how money works.  Obviously the academic prestige is as much of a smoke and mirrors game as their crappy team that goes 11-1 and gets blown out in the worst BCS game every year.

Wait a minute... isn't Clemons being investigated for a possible 'roids problem?  We certainly don't want to bring that into the Big 12.

Not a problem.  The protocols the confy developed for dealing with the periodic 'roid problems from Nebraska are probably lying around somewhere.

Nothing periodic about Nebraska using 'roids.

FSU and Notre Dame to increase the footprint. Then go get Florida (sister school and travel partner for FSU) and Alabama (academics).

Rumblings that FSU won't be allowed to come until Jimbo formally agrees to go by a less ignorant sounding name.  Supposedly this is one of only a few sticking points in the conference negotiation.  FSU guys seem to be concerned that without a coach's name like Jimbo to make fun of(like so many have done for several years now) they don't think anyone will remember exactly who they are.

Heard pretty much the same with Dabo, only no one knows what Dabo is short for and so suggestions are being made.  No one can agree on the Dabo alternative.

Seems like there is a large emphasis being put on not bringing in the culture of ignorant racist rednecks with any incoming ACC teams.  Big hurdle.  Big.  Maybe insurmountable.

Explains why "Bo" and the Nubbs were forced out.
