Swimming is the most exciting to me.

The diving is the worst to me. Every single dive looks exactly the same by the Chinese get way higher scores. Judged sports are not sports unfortunately.

Track is just a classic event. I think the races are exciting from beginning to end. In the longer ones, you can see the strategizing about how to run the race. Where to position themselves, when to push the pace. Then they literally collapse at the finish line because they've pushed themselves so hard.

It also always amuses me how the top 100 and 200 m runners are like total flamboyant divas.

Usain Bolt in the 100M at Beijing remains one of the 2 or 3 most electrifying (non-KSU) sports things I've ever watched. He obliterates the best competition in the world and smashes a WR while kicking off his victory celebration 15 meters before the race ends. Still unbelievable:

https://youtu.be/F14EaVEDyUs?si=okeM3YrWWbaGU_Cl

His victory and letting up was insane. IMO the bigger moment from that Olympics was the 0.01 second win by Phelps and the come from behind in the 4x100 but I'm digress. Bolt just absolutely crushing was just jaw droppingly dominant

1. T&F sprints, relays and long jump.

2. Swimming

3. Soccer

4. Women’s Gymnastics

5. Men’s basketball

6. Men’s Gymnastics

7. Rowing

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Was watching some Diamond League Track replays from Monaco to get take the edge off my hunger for Olympic track last night. Rai Benjamin beat Warholm in the 400M hurdles. Grant Holllaway won the 110 hurdles in 13.02. That man is an absolute unit -- looks like God carved him from a block of granite.

Wish I could watch, probably catch a replay. Having the athletes go down the Seine seems really cool.

I'm sure I would have seen it on Twitter at some point this afternoon and then tuned in, but I'm happy to now have the opportunity to watch the whole thing. And Mrs. Stevesie is very appreciative as well.

Unrelated, how much do you think a global commercial would cost? I'm assuming every country has their own commercials that play only in their country. But couldn't some billionaire pay for 30 seconds of ad time and just give a PSA or something if they really wanted to?

Maybe multiply the cost of a 30 sec SuperBowl slot x 3?

Have they made a final determination on whether the Seine is safe for swimming?

Watched some more Diamond League Track last night. TV announcers (as well as an army of bots on Facebook) are trying to hype Femke Bol as a rival to our glorious Syd, lol. She will be lucky to be over the last hurdle before Syd starts her world record Gold medal victory celebration.

I will root for Noah Lyles because USA but after watching SPRINT on Netflix I won't enjoy it.  He tries to bring the swag and confidence like Usain Bolt but he has none of Bolt's charisma. He's very fast though.

I follow track reasonably closely and the very, very gross thing that they didn't mention about Lyles is that his coach is an absolute douche-bag who spent time in federal prison for defrauding the government of scholarship $$$ when he was the head coach at Barton CC (and later a sprint coach at Arkansas - he was fired while there after his conviction). He's also coached several athletes - Tyson Gay being the most famous - who are notorious for doping. He's bad news and it's unfortunate Lyles has chosen him as his coach because the doping thing will always hang over his head because of that coach (fair or not).

Anyway - the show actually made me want to root more for the Jamaicans (even though I won't) with the exception of Gabby Thomas in the 200m.

The opening ceremonies don't look as cool as I thought it would, although I'm sure it's great in person. The weird ass random dancers, fashion show, and musicians that NBC keep showing without context isn't helping.

Since I am going to the Olympics early next week I looked into getting some official Polo gear and it is very expensive

Lyles is awesome and I will be cheering for sure but Usain Bolt was just an entirely different entity. An actual GOAT. The GOAT-iest of all GOATs.
