Milk
« on: April 29, 2012, 05:18:56 PM »
I was buying milk at Hy-Vee today and Midwest Country Fare brand milk costs $2.99 per gallon, while all of the other brands (including the store brand) are in the $3.89 - $4.09 range.  This price gap is rather consistent and has bothered me for some time.  It doesn't seem like there could be all that much of a difference between milk that I definitely couldn't tell apart in a blind taste test.

WTF is up with that?

I grew up on milk straight from the cow.  If I tried to drink raw milk now I would proly crap my pants.  If you are worried about healthiness well there is not much you can do about it.  The  government sets the standards and that is what commercial dairies shoot for.

Here's one for you.  Did you know after all of the processing that takes place in skim milk, it actually has a blue color.   They add chemicals & food coloring to it to make it white again.

I don't care for the taste of raw milk either, but someone told me the other day that it taste better when you separate the cream. :dunno: think I'll try that next time.

Did you know that processed salad dressings like ranch and caesar have white paint chemicals in them to make them white?

Really digging the organic stuff lately, so rough ridin' creamy.  I would normally drink whole milk but I can drink the 2% or even 1% of the organic stuff and get the same flavor.  2 things:  1) eff you pussy ass skimmites.  2) Whats the deal with shelf stable organic milk?  crap freaks me out, I get the refrigerated stuff.

Well, guess no one has enough HMIQ to answer what differences cause the price gap. :clac:

May as well just discuss how great milk is. :lick:

The milk that is a dollar more is exactly the same as the other milk, it comes from the same company/cows and everything.  Different label is all, fooling the rubes.  This is confirmed by a dairy insider I know

Does anyone dunk cookies in another beverage besides milk?

Also what is your favorite cookie to dunk in milk?

I just had some Chocolate Chips cookies dunked in milk last night and it was DIVINE.

Is this even a question?  First off, I would say any sandwich cookie dominates a non-sandwich cookie.  The amount of milk they seem to retain, and difference in texture after a good dunk are fantastic and something a chocolate chip cookie just couldn't match.

So now we are looking for the best sandwich cookie.  There are basically two types of sandwich cookie that are of a high level, Girl Scout Peanut Butter thingies and the Oreo.  Now, I am not going to break down the seasonal Oreos that they have now as that just opens up a whole can of worms.  I like the Peanut Butter thingies, but for a day to day cookie/milk combo, I go oreo.  Double Stuf I like more for non-milk eating, but it is too much for with milk.  I go with regular Stuf
