Old Movies
« on: April 19, 2012, 05:43:37 PM »
are terrible. And by "old" I mean pretty much everything before the 80's. But especially the old black and white movies from the 40's and 50's. They are so awful. Even the one's that are supposed to be classics and have like a 100% on rottentomatoes are super boring. Why do people like these movies? I think they like them because they think they are supposed to like them.

the 70's still had a lot of good movies.

60's and older are pretty god damn dreadful though.  it really makes you appreciate movies now.

I think the Dollars trilogy are pretty much the oldest movies I like. Also, some of the John Wayne's are entertaining, even if they are pretty cheesy.

In the History of American Cinema class I took at K-State we had to watch the 1925 Ben Hur silent movie. We sat in complete silence for like 4 hours watching that stupid movie. It was terrible and everyone hated it because of how stupid and boring and horrible it was. It has a 100% rating on rottentomatoes. Just another example of people claiming to like movies they think they're supposed to like.

Rosemary's Baby still scares/freaks me out.  It has one of the best horror movie endings.

Dr. Strangelove the image of the cowboy riding the nuke still evokes strong emotions.

Mary Poppins still holds up as good entertainment for my kids today.

I don't believe you can just use a huge brush stroke and say nothing good was made before the 80's.  I might even say there were more quality movies in relation to crappy ones made in the 60's and 70's.   :dunno:

Oh, got it. I watched pal joey about 10 years ago and enjoyed it. Nothing recent to add to this thread. I guess I watched from here to eternity about 10 months ago with mrs Dave. It's garbagey.
