Currie should be trusted with the next football hire
« on: April 18, 2012, 06:39:35 PM »
I know all the kerfuffle about the bball hire, but football is the priority and Currie is pointing everything he has towards making a major hire for the next football coach.  All resources will be used, look for the next coach to one of the top 20 paid coaches if not top 10.

If you don't want Currie making the next hire, then (IHMO) you are wrong as will give Bill the defacto right to name his successor.

I agree, but don't think it's worth shitting all over the basketball program for, which is exactly what he's doing. What good coach is going to come work for an AD who won't let him cheat?

It was Sophie's choice and he knew he vast majority of K-State fans really don't care too much about the basketball program anyway.

All is forgiven if he gets a top ten football coach. I don't know what makes you think graph dyslexic man is even capable of that though.

he cares about the football hire, and I think a John Currie that cares is capable of many things.

I disagree, chings. Paying a lot of money won't get Kansas State a proven BCS coach. So what's the rough ridin' point.

This is my thought.  What coach are we going to get thats elite that will come here?  Moreso, that we won't get outbid on from a school with better facilities?  I guess we could try to make a run at whoever is coaching Boise like so many people have in the past :dunno:

I've rumblings of the same.

Plus, outside of Frank getting his ass kissed on the same level of a coach who had hung multiple banners, and filled up the trophy case he wasn't going to stay at K-State, so get over it.

My reasoning has nothing to do with Frank or even Currie.  I think  ksu throwing big money around for the next football coach would end up a lot like depaul spending two million a year on Oliver Purnell.

It won't guarantee it, but John Currie wants to make sure he has the ammo to make a hire that will make him a hot commodity.  He will work very hard to get a splashy name here.  He didn't work hard on basketball because it didn't matter for his job prospects.  There will be zero consequence for a boring/poor basketball hire at K-State, but a boring/bad football hire will doom Currie's career and he knows that.  It might not be a great coach he hires, but it will generate a lot of buzz.

Would rather give it to Seany than let Currie hire it.

Oh, I'm fairly certain he'll try. I don't think the fact that his hire might bring buzz is a good reason to trust him, though.

My biggest fear is that the backlash from the Weber hire would make Currie think twice about hiring somebody like Rich Rod who gets fired from a big time school. I want a big name if a big name is available, regardless of whether he was recently fired or not.
