Furniture guys, 2 couches, what are we tipping now a days?

I would scramble and probably try and find my kids hidden money because I never have any cash and hope to find a $20 to give them.

Yeah I'm thinking 10 each or 20 each depending on how little they eff up my walls.

I would tip depending on how you feel at the time. Don't go in with any preset amount because you never know what might happen.

Yeah it’s been a while but last time our furniture guys were way more jazzed about ice cold water than any tip.

I used to deliver furniture for Faith Furniture in MHK back in the day. We used to get paid 7.50/hr + tips. Well, when I started they didn’t have a delivery fee and most people tipped. After I’d been there about 6 months, they started adding a $20 delivery fee and tips slowed way down.

We were always pumped when we got a tip. It was usually $20 or $10 bill split between two guys.

We definitely messed up some walls. Sometimes it’s almost impossible not to.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Are you saying the minimum on that is too high?

I assumed he meant the maximum was too low for exceptional table service.

It was wings and a sandwich. $60 with tip and we don't booze. Ridic.

I can't remember the last time I tipped less than 20%, I kind of view that as bare minimum.  I am militant about not tipping for counter service tho.

Cashier at Jimmy John’s turns around the tablet.

Cashier: It’s just gonna ask you a couple of questions

Me: …

I feel guilty and add a dolar, while the cashier stares me down.

I'm a sucker and always put maximum tip on everything unless they really sucked.  :frown: KatKid is a notoriously bad tipper though in case anyone was wondering.

To me, tipping over 20% (other than for exceptional service) is just encouraging restaurants to refrain from paying real wages. At best, you’re just subsidizing other people paying lower menu prices than they should. At worst you’re helping fat cats keep better people than they should be able to afford.

I'm not tipping at chains if I'm purchasing from the counter like JJ's, but I will at small businesses.

"It's better for the poor/service industry workers if you don't give them money" is an interesting spin.

I don’t think it’s a radical position at all. If Amazon started including a tip line for deliveries and people used it often enough, I can guarantee they’d use it as an excuse to try and pay less than minimum wage too.

Prices should reflect the value of goods and services delivered. Consumers shouldn’t feel morally responsible for making sure service workers are making ends meet.

You are right that everyone should make a living wage without tips, but tipping 15% instead of 25% isn't going to create the massive societal change you're looking for

My gripe is with the convention itself within restaurants, which really makes no sense to me. Tipping should be to reward good service instead of subsidizing crappy wages.

So yeah, I tip the 20% cause the solution is really just raising the minimum wage. But it’s definitely a peeve of mine when people act like consumers need to be responsible for making up the difference by increasing tip percentages.
