i don't have it in me to hate oscar weber. sadly, i see a lot of myself in him. 

I believe this is why there was a faction of Illini fans that so vigorously defended the guy, regardless of how bad he was at his job.  The whole aw-shucks-cub-scout-den-leader-lawn-mowing-dog-walking-ice-cream-social-attending-coupon-clipping rube persona really struck a chord with some corny East Central Illinoisans.  Identity politics at it's worst.

Well crap, I don't see one ounce of me in him.  Except if some rube in Kansas offered me $1.5 million to do the job I had just failed miserably at, I'd give him a hug and take my gumbo to go.
