oscar Weber inherited a team full of NBA players from Bill Self, and led Illinois to several very successful seasons.

Then, when he had a roster full of his own players, he began to lose. Lose at a rate that left him with an overall losing record in the Big 10.

Cats fans, we need to be patient!  If Weber wins next year with Frank's players, it will be too soon to call Weber a successful hire.  As history has shown us, oscar Weber can still fail.

So let's all watch recruiting with a careful eye, because this will be the indicator of whether oscar Weber will be the same oscar Weber that inherited an NBA roster and drove Illinois into the ground, or some magical new person for whom any positive expectation is not based on prior history or facts.

Right now, he's just a guy who wanted a job. Can't blame him for that. Grats on the job, oscar.

Pete, if someone who makes me uncomfortable hires Unds then everything is going to be okay.  It will make everything better.  EVERYTHING.  That's when I'll know that oscar Weber is going to succeed.  When Brad Underwood is retained.

Careful Catzacker.  It may LOOK like we have a decent program when we make it back to the NCAA next year, BUT THERE IS STILL PLENTY OF TIME FOR oscar WEBER TO BE oscar WEBER!

DO NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP!

What do you mean?  If oscar Weber retains Brad Underwood then that means that oscar Weber cares about KSU basketball.  JFC.  When you have Brad Underwood on staff everything is going to turn out ok.  Did oscar have Unds on his staff at Illinois?  Hell no.  And that's why he failed.  If oscar could somehow land Steve Henson on his staff, then Fred Bramlage Coliseum will be one rockin' place for years to come.

oscar Weber is the perfect hire....for John Currie. Currie needed a guy that can win next season or maybe the next two seasons to fatten his resume. He will be gone in 2-3 years.

Weber is a good coach if he has players...that's the problem. He can recruit. If he can't recruit Illinois then what makes people think he can recruit to Manhattan.

Plus I don't know about anyone else but Big 10 Basketball makes me want to claw my eyes out.

Terrible fing hire. Maybe we can get lucky and there will be a Sorority hottie that will throw herself at him and he will get fired just in time for oscar Pearl to arrive to save the day.

This is why it is very important for people to assist me in poisoning any well Currie tries to go after,

His next AD job needs to be down at a DII.

oscar Weber has shown he can win at the highest levels when he isn't saddled with the negativity of a delusional fan base and he doesn't have to deal with unfortunate incidents one after the other.

In 2006, he had the verbal of Eric Gordon, he was one year removed from the championship game, and then the refs stole the Washington game, Gordon decommits due to the shady practices of Sampson, Jamar Smith becomes an alcoholic, Frazier breaks his hand, McCamey is a lazy player, and Jereme Richmond ends up a disaster.

How many coaches could come through that and still take a team to the NCAA, beat UNLV like a drum, and hang with #1 Kansas?  Very few, if any.

Then of course, this year, Mike Thomas the AD has to throw Weber under the bus mid season which then tanked the year.  15-3 at one point, first place in the Big Ten at one point, then Thomas has to go on the radio and show no confidence in Weber, and the wheels fell off at that point.

You guys are going to be eating crow after a great season and great recruiting haul by Weber.

Frank Martin did that in 2009-2010

Beat UNLV by 15 points and lost to KU in overtime by 2. Although KU was ranked 2 in the nation...he did beat the number one team earlier in that month. Research, clown. RESEARCH.

I'm going to explain myself in much greater detail later, but face it. You don't want to hear the other side of the coin on the Jereme Richmond deal.  The dude had issues, but Weber failed that kid.  Miserably.  I for one am not upset Weber is not the head coach at SIU, even though it would have been a better fit for him.

May I tell you that if Jerrance Howard is not assistant, that Chris Lowery would be?  This you guys DO NOT WANT.  Trust me on this.  8-23 at Southern.  Damn near ran off everyone that played on the SIU roster.  Pray Jerrance comes and Lowery does not.

One problem with this. Illinois had already collapsed when Mike Thomas went on radio and said Weber would be evaluated at the end of the year. They had lost 5 of 6 (including a loss to a horrible Penn State and home loss to Northwestern) and made it 6 of 7 the next day against Michigan.

And no "hell of a good coach" goes 50-56 in the Big Ten at Illinois unless he's walking into a complete rebuilding job.  Weber was at Illinois 9 years, 3 of which were good, 1 of which was decent (the 24-10 team), while the other 5 were complete failures. When your failure rate is greater than 50% as a college coach at a good program, you're more than deserving of a pink slip.

Read, clown, READ.  Did Frank Martin have to deal with opponents unethically stealing committed recruits?  Did he have to deal with toxic negative fans?  Did he have to deal with fat lazy unmotivated players?  Did he have to deal with a cancerous recruit like Richmond?  Or losing his best player to a broken hand?

Maybe he shouldn't recruit lazy, unmotivated, cancerous players then. But, you're right, no other coach has had to deal with an injury to one of their players. Ever.

I believe the term is snakebiten.

Jim Wooldridge was also an excellent coach that just had very bad luck and lots of snakebites.

I've already formed an opinion of oscar and it's not a favorable one.  However, if that limpdick SOB reaches (at least) the S16 next season and signs a nice class I may be open to changing my opinion of him to :dubious:
