dallas
« on: March 31, 2012, 09:08:07 PM »
did we ever get an explanation as to why john currie immediately got on a plane and flew to dallas as soon as frank accepted a different job?

is it common procedure for athletic directors to fly to dallas when they need to find a successful head coaching replacement for their successful head coach that just left?

also, if currie was in dallas. and oscar weber was interviewing for a job at smu. then is this a coincidence? did they not talk to each other while they were both in the same rough ridin' town?

somebody with some knowledge on how this all works please help me out here because i am at a loss.

guys- they were in the same town on the same days and then the next day currie hires him. currie flustered during the interview says that he immediately flew to dallas to stay at a hotel room and go over charts and then on wednesday? (i think that's what he said) flew to where weber was to talk to him. then apparently weber went to dallas on thursday? to interview for the smu job? guys this does not add up. it does not make sense.

I'm pretty sure they ran into each other at the airport and Currie hired him.

I ran into Marcus Allen at the Dallas airport one time.  I would prefer him over oscar Weber fwiw.

Who gives a rat how it went down? Why does it matter?  So, he went to Dallas. oscar Weber went to Dallas. OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! What were they both doing in Dallas?!?!  This is a travesty.  I want answers!!!!  Get the President on the phone NOW!!

Kirk: "John, what were you doing in Dallas with oscar Weber?
John: "I was looking over guys that I'd like to hire and oscar was interested in the job, so we met"
Kirk: "Let me ask this again, what were you doing in Dallas and why was oscar Weber there?"
John: "I wanted to talk with oscar about the job"
Kirk: "I don't think you're hearing me, the crazies at goEMAW.com want to know what the heck you were doing in Dallas and why was oscar Weber there?"
John: "Uh, uh, they found it in the trash can, by the trash can at the western union at Dillons and I was in a hotel room checking my charts by myself"
Kirk: "That's better, I thought that's what you were doing"

In case none of you knew this, oscar Weber is our basketball coach.

Where is this headhunter/search firm ADJC hired located? Are THEY in Dallas? I agree with Daris, pretty perplexing why Currie had to fly immediately to Dallas to get his wits about him. Were there Big XII meetings there that day?  :ck:
I'm in it purely for the entertainment value.

Too bad our dumbass townie reports are too stupid to ask any difficult questions at a press conference. "Uh, welcome aboard coach, uh, uh..." Good god.

why does it matter?

1)i'd like to know if currie lied during the presser.
2)i'd like to know if weber was his guy from the beginning and if he had pearl lined up on sunday before martin even left.
3)i feel like it's my right as a fan and season ticket holder to know these things.
4)this one is the most important really...i'm just genuinely curious as to why an athletic director in kansas would hop a plane to go to a dallas hotel for four days when he was starting a coaching search.

JC: "Hey everyone, thanks for joining my conference call! So look, a few questions about Coach Weber. First: is there any chance he's successful enough at K-State that he'd leave after a few years?"

All: [Uncomfortable silence.]

JC: "No? Great!" [Writes 'loyalty' down in his Trapper Keeper.] "Next, is there any chance he recruits well enough to attract the NCAA's attention?"

All: [A few incredulous chuckles.]

JC: "Alrighty then!" [Writes 'integrity' down in his Trapper Keeper.] "Finally, what are the odds Coach Weber's sideline demeanor embarrasses our university on the national stage?"

All: [Outright laughter.]

Respondent: "John, you won't have to worry about the national stage..."

JC: "Brilliant! Sounds like I've got everything I need." [Writes 'class' down in his Trapper Keeper.] "Thanks again gentlemen, and I'll see you at next year's Final Four! ...By myself, of course--not with the K-State basketball team, I mean, could you imagine? Hur hur hur!"
