I don't think covering up the Jamar situation would have been a good idea. The third party kind of throws a wrench in things.

If Currie, Frank, and Jamar were the only ones that knew about it, you are absolutely right. But I would guess there is some sort of log of when violations are reported from third parties to ensure prompt action is taken by the school. And when the third party is involved, who knows who they told? You think this guy would hesitate to call the NCAA at the same time? On top of that, you have Malone taking ownership of the cash to everyone in the world. But the main thing is the third party makes a situation like this so much harder to manage than just an internal discovery.
