Huge day for seeding...
« on: March 11, 2010, 10:20:57 AM »
http://bracketproject.50webs.com/matrix_2010.htm

Of course, the most important thing we can do is beat OSU, but the Big East tournament has 3 games that will effect where we end up as well.  Marquette/Nova, Notre Dame/Pitt, and Cinci/West Virginia all take place today.

The Big 10 tournament has a later start, no games of importance today, but tomorrow Ohio State will play Mich/Iowa, Purdue will play Northwestern/Indiana, Mich State will play Minn/Penn State, and Wisconsin will play Illinois.

Playing on/winning Saturday would be great, but more of a gravy game for us with an outside shot at a 1-seed.  The next two days should definitely show us if we remain a 2, or fall as far as the 4 line.

What were the implications of Cuse and Nova losing today?

You'd have to assume we're a solid #2 now.  2 more wins, or 1 more win + duke/ohio st loss, and we're a #1  :gocho:

I say we are on the verge of a two. Win tomorrow night and we seal it.

Then you have no problem listing the 4-1's and 4-2's ahead of the Khatz right now.  I'll wait

What would it take to get the first 2 seed? Do we need help, or by making the finals or winning it all automatically get us there?  :dunno:

We win the Big 12 Tournament, we're more than likely the top 2 seed.  But it also will depend how West Virginia does in the Big East,  Purdue/Ohio State in the Big 10, and Duke in the ACC.

Don't really see how the committee could seed us in front of Baylor if we don't win today.  We have identical records now.  They would move ahead of us in the RPI.  They have more wins against top 50 teams.

If we lose this game, they will take the spot in OKC and we'll end up a plane ride away from home regardless of what number they put next to our name.  This is kinda important.  :ohno:

yeah.  i'm a complete wreck already today.  we win tonight and these 2 wins will be the best/most impressive wins of the season because of what's on the line (i don't think this is a bold statement).

I'm with you here.  Last night was a big game to keep from maybe dropping to a 4, tonight could be about not dropping to a 3.  Of course, the Big East teams going down didn't hurt us and we'll have to see how the Big 10 teams do today.  But Baylor would have a strong case with a win tonight to pass us, even if they lose in the Champ game to KU.

again, not saying anything bold, but the isu loss is just killing us right now.  had we of not lost to ISU, Baylor would have had two worse losses than us (Alabama...who we beat, and CU).  if we drop to a #3, is there any way that we aren't on the same side with WVU as the #2?

That would be very likely, the committee would love that possible match-up.

And yeah, ISU loss is a killer, 2 seed would be a done deal right now.

Baylor is a 4 seed and can move up to the 3/2 line by winning the tourny. We are a 3 seed at the worst, probably a 2 w/ a chance at the last #1 by winning the tourny.

It doesn't matter one damn bit what Joe Lunardi tells you our seed is right now.

Compare the resumes of the two schools right now.  They are almost identical.  Winner tonight will have the edge and the second spot in OKC.  It's that simple.

yeah, don't kid yourself.  All the current 2's, 3's and 4's have pretty similar resumes.

Very similar.

Beating BU would give us 9 top 50 wins, would be a nice feather in the cap for the top 2 seed.

not exactly. baylor sos is 14 ours is 4. I also don't care about Lunardi other than the fact that he is listed on bracket matrix

It will be interesting to see how much weight they put on our win in Waco, our better OOC wins, and the last 10 games.  Even with a loss, we'd finish 7-3 to their 8-2 in the last 10.  Now, if they would go on to beat KU in the finals, then they probably put themselves on the 2 line.

Yes, that is why everyone has us ahead of them right now.

But the difference between 14 and 4 is pretty slim.  And if they do beat us then they will have another game against KU so it will get even slimmer.

A Baylor win would put them at 25-6, 8-4 v top 50, 5-1 v 51-100, 9-1 in last 10
KSU would be 24-7, 8-5 v top 50, 3-1 v 51-100, 7-3 in last 10

Yes, but you've still got to factor in their (likely) KU game.  So assuming KU would win, then it looks like this:
BU 25-7, 8-5 v top 50, 5-1 v 51-100, 8-2 in last 10
KSU 24-7, 8-5 v top 50, 3-1 v 51-100, 7-3 in last 10

Essentually we split the season, but we won at their place.  And then you factor in how much weight is put on our OOC schedule and record which was much better than theirs.

Hopefully we win and make it a mute point, but it could be interesting if it comes down to that scenario.

But our OOC was not much better than theirs and that is reflected in the number of top 100 teams that we've both played.

It's very close, but I think a fresh win in the conference tourney combined with two more wins against top 100 teams would have to put them in front.  Now, if we had beaten Iowa State...
