Why does High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) suck so much? Like, I never get any better at it, and it's not fun at all.

I love it.  The point is to never get better at it, just keep making it harder.  How long have you been doing it?  If more than a couple months, go back and look at your original workouts and you should be able to  at them.

A year with a trainer. Yesterday's workout:

400 squats; 300 crunches; 80 pushups; 4 minute wall sit in 1 minute intervals; 60 plate throws; 80 burpees; 20 minutes elliptical -- divide the whole thing by four and do four rounds.

I can look at old workouts and it's marginally easier, but only marginally.

I walk for 1 hour at 15 incline and 3 speed.  It kicks my ass completely.  But I have also read all of the same stuff about intervals.  That's probably better than my method.

That is a tough sounding work out.  That said, I don't know what a plate throw is or why anyone would use an elliptical.

Also, you should talk to your trainer about compounding some of that.  For example, do your pushups at the bottom of your burpees.  Also, do that with some dumbells and come up to an OH press.  Saves time and gets much more of your body involved.  Bang for your buck.

The elliptical is the only part of the workout that doesn't make me angry.

Elliptical is a great way to keep your heart rate up for an extended period of time. Not sure why anyone would hate on it.

I don't get much out of it.  Probably just me.  Was kidding mostly because I know there are some elliptical ppl on here.  If I wanted to do one activity for the entire time I am at the gym, it would probably be great.

I enjoy it.

I get to stay healthy and I enjoy the competitive aspect of it. Also, it's the only physical activity I have an interest in that doesn't lead to me injuring myself anymore (why I quit college wrestling and jiu jitsu).

You HAVE to weight train too. All cardio and nothing else is a recipe for gaining weight eventually. Your body goes into starvation mode, so when you're not running 10 miles a day, every bite you take goes straight to your ass. (I read this yesterday. I don't know if it's true, but it made a lot of sense to me.)

I really wanted to make a "that's not all that goes straight in your ass" joke here, but that is sound advice.

She has/had a "thyroid condition."

When you read that please picture me throwing up the air quotes and rolling my eyes.  Also picture me very good looking with nice abs and hair in all the right places (and none of the wrong places).  Also, with a miniature version of myself in a baby bjorn.  And when I do air quotes and roll my eyes he does it, too.

Such beauty and elegance in this post.  It was hard to tell if I was reading Emo EMAW or Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Well when you date a girl for a year or more and she gets complacent she might get a "thyroid condition" and pull the ripcord.  That's when you pull the ejection handle.
