I am 6 weeks into yoga(once a week) and that stuff is legit.  I wish my schedule allowed for a second or third time weekly.  Really helping my hip flexibility and shoulders too.  I really like it.

I've been working on some hip opening stretches myself before I go to bed at night. I'm having less back pain and getting better quality sleep. I've thought about seeking out a beginner's yoga class here in town, but have not really pursued it yet.

Go to www.ROMWOD.com .

haha, eff no.

If all you need is hips, look up Warrior poses 1 through 4 and garland pose.  There are a bunch others, but those all really loosen my hips up quick.  I do slow full squats into garland and hold for several seconds as a warm up before any workout that has legs in it, and you can find them on the internet.

If you want a quick check on a good location for a class, just look up your closest Crossfit box.  From what I understand, a lot of boxes are trying to offer yoga these days.

The internet has been a great resource. Thanks for the suggestion.

I refuse to give any money to anything Crossfit related.

Barefoot/socks only leg days are a game changer.    Balance is so much easier.  Also, I have changed my squats up so that I go all the way down to a near ass-to-ground crouch.   Had to lighten the weight up quite a bit to get used to the balance, and using the rest of the muscle/muscles in that way, but building weight back up now and it feels so much better.

Highly recommend all the above to any serious leg day lifter.

There's a podcast I listen to and the host is Mormon, did his mission to Japan or something like that.  He was talking once about how the Asian folks can squat for hours straight like us westerners sit.  Even as an in shape twenty something he couldn't squat with these folks and it changed his perspective on things.  Now he weightlifting squats ass to floor like you're talking and has built his strength over time doing it that way, tries to sit as little as possible, always engages his ass when he's driving, etc.  He thinks he has/is avoiding lower back problems by doing this.

It seems counter intuitive, but I think stopping at parallel definitely puts a strain on the lower back that you just don't get when you fully squat.  That is my take away after doing it for several weeks now.

I have read a decent amount all that, except the ass engaged driving, and it's certainly enough to make me give it a go for a few months to see what happens.

From a practical standpoint, like for building strength for practical uses (lifting heavy crap like elk quarters), it makes sense to do it that way to me.

@wetwillie, I'm sort of doing a hybrid version of your plan and it's working.  I can't just lift right now because I need to focus heavily on cardio, so I'm doing your plan plus running and also shooting my bow.  I gained a half pound in lean body mass in the last week which is about all I can hope to expect.    I really need to eat more I think.  Eating is hard.

That's great, hopefully you continue to see gains.  Eating enough and sleeping enough is a PITA.

Every single gym in Kansas City is a Genesis now, so that's cool. :dunno:

Which is odd. My employer provides a deep discount to genesis but when I moved here in may there was only one location in kc and its like 20 min from my house so I didn't sign up. And now there is one like 2 minutes from both work and the house and I can't sign up until Feb

I dunno but the one on 119th that was awesome and the coolest and perfect and super close to me shut down and is nothing now. And everything else was bought out by the behemoth which is Genesis.

Guys I feel old :frown:

Last Tuesday I played softball and we play 'you hit it you get it' on HR's.  So when I was going to get one the gate was locked and so I jumped the fence.  It's probably a good six feet drop and going over and back felt fine.

Since then tho my right hip has been killing me.  The day after the game I woke up to it popping and it felt like an ice pick was stuck in it.  It keeps popping and kinda hurts to walk.  It's on the front inner part of my leg.

My question is what can I do to make it stop popping and hurting?  Like are there some stretches or exercises that will make it heal faster?  I usually sleep on my right side, and that's the one I hurt, so it's been a pain in the ass.  Ideas?

Could you even make it over a fence that high?
