Citystars is denying that security fired birdshot at the workers to get them to disperse. So, that's a relief.

it's like people in the middle east don't like to just chill the eff out

Funny you should say that. Someone put out a "chill out...the prices are all the same" message that interrupted cable tv and radio last night and appeared in newspapers this morning.

It's hilarious how popular KFC is here. And since everything delivers in Cairo, you constantly see the KFC motorcycles winding through traffic. I always like when I see one at like 8 am.

Also, Hardee's. Very big here, apparently.
It's the Halal chicken thing. They're hugely popular everywhere in the middle east.

Also, if you want to be hilariously inundated in American brands go to the citystars mall. I stayed at the Intercontinental attached to it and it's hilarious....like a parody of American suburban mall culture.

Bad news, Eurocat. The revolution has officially come to Citystars. Workers at Spinneys (the chain grocery store) went bananas when they heard a report that the store was sold to a MB official. They rampaged through the store and the mall, busting glass in storefront windows, fighting security guards and injuring people until forcing the evacuation of all six glorious stories and 270,000 square feet.
this is terrible. If city stars is closed where am I gonna get sbarros in Cairo?

Oh boy. Four days out and they're already rolling tanks into my ritzy little suburb. But don't worry, the office printer signs assure us they're "for the safety of the people."

So what are the upcoming protests about?

1 year anniversary of Morsi in office. Morsi opponents have picked this day to protest him. Apparently they've been organizing for weeks. Morsi is going to give a speech and if people don't like it, crap's going to get cray.

That's pretty much the gist. Everyone is closing up shop for the day and heading downtown.

Oh man this gas crisis.

This guy scored some "petrol"!

Handy phrase I learned this week: al banzeen fee al tank wi al milyoon fee al bank.

Basically: gas in the tank and cash in the bank, or an Egyptian way of saying :kstategrad:

they should just have democratic elections like we have in the us, then no more tanks and riots, etc.  seems like a pretty simple concept.
