They just prevented another bombing at the Supreme Constitutional Court, as the MB tried to get on the board (allegedly, at least; it would actually surprise me if the MB did anything major before their massive march to tahrir after prayers tonight).

Oh, did I mention it's Ramadan? So, along with the anniversaries, we get extra religious tension and everyone super irritable because they're fasting.  Ramadan is peak season for watching slap fights in the streets, with both parties shouting "I'm fasting!" "Oh, I'm fasting, too!"

What is the opinion of the locals on World Cup athletes during Ramadan?  Do they get a "pass," or would the average guy on the street expect Muslim athletes to adhere to fasting when they are in the World Cup?

Incorrect.

Yeah. You can get exemptions for all sorts of things and just do your fast in a different month.  I'm not sure about the local clubs, though. The two biggest rivals just played. I'll check.

I would file for a special exemption to just fast every other Friday all year long.  Really spread out my sacrifice or love of god or whatever.  Really live that crap, you know?

ramadan around the summer solstice would really suck. i'd try to stay in bed past noon if my only job that day was to create mayhem after prayers.

The local staff at the embassy works reduced hours during Ramadan, and everyone makes a point not to eat or drink in front of them. Meanwhile, they show up late, leave early and accomplish very little aside from smoking a crap ton of cigarettes.  EVERYBODY hates summer Ramadan.

Also, the Olajuwon story has proved to be a very popular anecdote. I may see if the press office will post it on twitter.

Ajnad Misr came to play this Ramadan. Not only did they claim today's attacks, but they said their statement three days ago was only meant to lure security forces into a trap, using new "undetectable" IEDs that are also impervious to signal era.

Already new updated scores, this time with video:

Bombs: 5
Deaths: 3
Injuries: ? (lots)

To clarify, these are outside the rough ridin' presidential palace. And look at this video: These dipshits are all just nonchalantly strolling around and leaning over the goddamn bomb to see how the tech is getting along with defusing it then BOOOM:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGNhLU5SNvM&feature=youtu.be

On the subject of oddly casual Egyptian reactions to sudden life-threatening situations, check out this security cam footage of a coptic storeowner being kidnapped yesterday by five armed militants. Notice when everyone else starts cowering and diving behind tables (there's no sound, but that's when the shooting started) and pay particular attention to the man in the white cap near the center of the screen.

Whichever group goes by "Land of the Quiver" should definitely start using a bow n arrow in some attacks, really embrace the name.

"Land of the Quiver" is actually an ancient name for Egypt, apparently because it's shaped like an old timey quiver.

But sadly, arrows are not great IEDs, which is how the war inside the city is waged.

About 20 high school students protested poor school funding outside the Ministry of Education today. It went really well.
