Certainly wouldn't have gotten a quote like this:

“We’re going to do what’s best for James Anderson, period,” Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford says. “If he’s going to be a lottery-type pick, something like that, most likely he needs to go.”

"We're going to do what's best for Xavier Henry, period," Kansas coach Bill Self says.  "If that boy thinks that he's going to leave me before his eligibility is up, something like that, most likely he needs to get back out in the field and start pickin'."

Let's just call the NBA what it is, junkyard basketball. Too bad the kids who decide to do the right thing and get a full college education can't cash in like the junkyard kids do. Society would be better if we had an NBA full of college graduates.

couldn't get a quote from self?   :surprised:

I love Mellinger's recent story angles:

Frank Martin just signed an extension, but he could still leave even though he says he won't
Craig Brackins stayed in college and doesn't regret it, but I don't believe him

You can mine that gold for years.  It's a great way to find stuff to write about.

Mellinger should've gotten a quote from Frank on Bill Walker leaving early for the NBA.

That would be fantastic.  I saw Frank in-person-intimidate an old powerespect at the NE Catbacker meeting who thought Bill should stay another year.

No telling how many millions of dollars Bill Self has cost his unfortunate players during his tenure at KU. My heart breaks for them.

Huggins had the end-all-be-all stance on the subject.

(paraphrasing) "Kids don't go to college to get educated.  Kids go to college to get a job.  My guys get jobs."

I think there's a lot of truth to that.
