Apple TV, et al

Wondering if anybody has it / figured out a way to stream different video formats (.mkv in particular) and spotify. Am considering, but only if this is possible.

I have been using Plex on my iMac, which is currently HDMI'd to my 52", however I will be moving the iMac to another room, so I need to stream it somehow. Love Plex.
What is your tv "upgrader"?

yes, unless you have the XS model.   The Roksbox site gives easy directions though.  http://roksbox.com/home/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53

I think people are anticipating a new Apple TV next week, or soon. I doubt it will get any easier to stream content that isn't approved by Big Brother, however.  The new Mountain Lion will allow you to mirror your Mac desktop onto your TV.

There is an LG smart tv upgrader box I got off amazon.  Some people have been jailbreaking appletv units but I didn't want to eff with it that much.  The box is about $120 and the size of a roku.  As far as I can tell, it is completely worthless outside of streaming plex, which is fine with me

you could also look into the wireless HDMI things, maybe it would work

had one of these.  only used for avi files and it worked fine.  but if you wanted to watch any streaming video it was super choppy.  also don't use this if you want to use tv for monitor.

that's weird.  maybe you got  a pos one.  i'd suspect the main application for streaming through an hdmi extender would be video.  how racist.
