Xbox ONe has HBO GO, Netflix, Starz, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Watch ESPN, Scorecenter, NFL/NBA/MLB network...  etc etc... and a shitload of other channels that still require a cable subscription.  They will however be rolling out Sling TV in the next month or two... Does anyone have a rough ridin' clue what that is?

sling tv is what rusty linked.  you pay $20 a month and get access to those channels on your tv through your xbox one.

It's the cheapest way to get ESPN without steve dave's watchESPN password.

I think 'clams is object to the thought that continuing pay Dish is "cutting the cord"  and a true cord cutting will only come after you can get WatchESPN direct from ESPN.

The Dish sling deal does have the positive no box rental, I am interested to learn how many streams you can use at once.

Do those little over the air HD boxes work well for the main networks?  Would be key for me in deciding on this new service

any tv made in the last 10 years only needs an antenna to get over the air HD

Well, if I subscribed to a standard cable package, I'd be paying what, $60-75/month? Basically for ESPN and FS1.

Depends on how far you are from the towers. In Manhattan I get a fuzzy Fox, that's it. In Topeka I got everything fine.

And sling TV only allows 1 stream at a time ("for now")

Also, little known fact: if you get internet from the cable company, you get local channels free,at least with cox. They are on random channels like 114-4 through 117-2. My newer tv recognizes them, but my older one doesn't.

comcast just quit doing that a few months ago.  At one time offering the ota channels unencrypted (meaning you didn't need a box) was federally mandated but the FCC has started to give cable companies waivers so they can make everyone rent a box. #thanksobama

That's a promo price and doesn't include an HD box (another $10/month). It says months 13-24 go to $45/month and then "regular rates" after that. Which would put you close to $60/month.

Where I live, the cheapest XFinity package with ESPN is $71/month (not including internet).

ESPN charges providers almost 7 dollars per subscriber a month for that one channel. I think the next highest priced channel is TNT which comes in around 1.80 a month.

I remember trying to set up the watchESPN contract for the cable company I use to work for.  I believe the initial charge was 10 cents a subscriber per month, and then every year after that it went up .01
