Because it makes the teacher look like the childish one when the mom finds a reasonable compromise and the kid ends up taking the high road.

Agreed. I was thinking the Mom kind of threw her kid under the bus on this as well. I would at least make the teacher explain why they were coloring a fictional bird on KS Day. I question my kids' teachers all the time about crap my kids have to do. Usually the teacher says something like, "Look, I think this rough ridin' stupid too, but this is part of the district's curriculum." Coloring a stupid looking bird can't be part of a curriculum.

Told my kid to just always color those purple.  Worked the first year, second year his purple crayon was missing or too broken or something.  So he colored it orange.  Go pokes.

I get the gang policy thing, as OKC has a pretty good sized gang that all wear Texas gear.  However, applying the policy to a 5 year old in a Michigan shirt is rough ridin' stupid.
