Are NPR listeners sheep?
« on: February 03, 2012, 10:02:31 AM »
Here is the situation;
Yesterday morning I am listening to NPR and they have a story about the company that codes many of the games on Facebook, Farmville being the most well known.  The story goes on to say how much money the company has in revenue, and also how hip and cool the company/CEO is.  I thought to myself "I wish I owned some of that before this story came on the radio" and sure enough. KaBoom!!!  As of this morning the stock price is up 30% in 48 hours, meanwhile EPS is -0.24.  The company name is Xynga for those of you who want to dump some money in while it is at it's 52-week high.

I heard an NPR story yesterday about how Ashland, KS attracted a doctor to their shitty hospital using interesting recruiting and allowing him to continue his humanitarian work

When I was doing radio out in western kansas I hooked up with an NPR girl that had just graduated from Arkansas. Lets just say the experience was very NPRish. Boring, slow, and uninteresting.

Rob Morrow as Joel Fleischman, starred for most of the series, leaving halfway through the final season. Joel is a Jewish physician and the proverbial fish out of water from New York City,[7] fresh out of family medicine residency, he arrives in the remote Alaskan town of Cicely, contractually bound to practice for four years to repay a student loan from the state of Alaska.

OMG my mom grew up in Ashland, KS and my grandad is one of 2 people in that hospital right now (they started hospice last week, but I'm kind of OK with it because he made it to his 100th birthday and always said he would just probably die after that  :frown:).  That doctor is fantastic!  I'll have to tell her about the NPR story.  She's one of those dorky southwest KS people that loses their mind when anything that relates to them is on the news.

oh yeah, me too, but we had a tv in our basement where my room was that nobody upstairs could hear.  anyway, twin peaks as a, like, 9 or 10 year old kid really fucks with your head.  like, it does anyway, but as a kid you really get messed up in the brain.

Not the same situation, NPR ran a story about a company, did not make a recommendation, but for reasons I can only guess at people went out and bought the stock despite no compelling reason to do so.

Cramer makes recommendations and as a guy who researches stocks and apparently made himself rich doing so, people decide to trust his judgement.

First of all it's Zynga (ZNGA), just in case anyone wants to look it up.  Secondly, the price is up because of Facebook's recent IPO filing and their affirmation of a solid relationship with Zynga.  Zynga makes apps too.  They're the makers of Words With Friends, for instance.
