I'm hopeful that hitting one shot last night might help Will get out of his funk a bit, but we'll see.

it gave him the confidence to chuck a 30 footer in one of the next possessions.  i think his shooting problems are a symptom of a bigger issue he is facing w/ confidence in making decisions on the in all aspects of the game.

Whatevs it is it is effecting his offensive decision making in a huge way.  Passing up open looks, passing up oppys to drive when a guy is out of position, taking that Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) shot when he could have easily taken a step.  Kid is melting down on himself like he has an internal Zacker sitting on his shoulder.

his father and frank do/have done far more damange than I could ever wish.

It is impossible for me to not watch a K-State game if I'm able. I can't do it. I tried to not watch the Pinstripe Bowl, but ended up flipping to it halfway through the 1st quarter.

But I am able to transition to the not-giving-a-crap-even-though-I'm-watching phase. We'll see if I ever get there this year.

Also, if we go to the NIT, and the game is televised, that will put my above assertion to the serious test. In fact, I'd say there is a greater than 50% chance I wouldn't watch that.

The last time I hit not-giving-a-crap-even-though-I'm-watching phase was Prince's last game against Missouri. I watched and laughed. I think I only watched a little of the Iowa State game the next week. I had tickets and was in Wichita for the week, but just couldn't care.

I'm with you on the NIT thing. I watched the Depaul eff-up and actually listened to the SDSU game on the radio. But it just felt different. I cannot imagine giving a eff about the NIT. Also, I'm pretty sure I'll check out for the rest of the season if KU blows us out at home (which I expect them to at this point).

it is probably just the coping mechanism from watching 20+ years of bad KSU basketball but I find it a million times easier and so much more fun to watch crappy KSU basketball than crappy KSU football.

Maybe it is the increased frequency of the games that makes each individual loss easier to take.

I'm telling you. This is a dangerous season. Hardcore fans like _fan, sys, rusty, etc aren't going anywhere. But the program needs terrible fans like me to stay engaged if it wants to grow.

Frank will bring you back.

I used to love football recruiting BTW, then I realized it was largely a big waste of time.

I'm disappointed I didn't make the example list of hardcore fans above.

Man, I hope so. I swear it was more fun being a bball fan the last the 4 years than I ever remember as a football fan. Maybe b/c I started as a bball fan pre-bill?

The first time I ever remember even hearing about football recruiting was when a friend lent my dad a powercat illustrated (or whatever it was called back then) that mentioned expectations for Frank Murphy (something like "not only carry the team, but drive them all to practice"). I did not get the reference at the time. I'm pretty sure the next time I cared was when we signed Freeman. Before that, I just used the Spring Game.

My mistake. Anyone who spots and appreciates a Dramane Diarra reference should probably get a mention.

I think this is a big K-State basketball fan distinction. Those of us that remember watching Lon's teams and Mitch's Elite 8 (but not necessarily Hartman's teams), then going through Altburyridge, are a special group. No matter how good football was, basketball at K-State was always something special to me, even at the lowest points of Altburyridge.

Saturdays as a kid were all about grainy Phillips66 games, followed by games on the lowered hoop outside where you pretended you were Henson and (*cough*) LaKeith Humphrey making it rain on Mookie Blaylock and Stacy King. Man did I hate Billy Tubbs.

I must be an exception then, as I have no recollection of the pre-Altman days, yet making the Dance in '96 was right up there among the high points of my K-State fandom in the 90s. I always yearned for good basketball even while football was kicking ass. Like I knew basketball was the sport K-State should be good at.

I haven't liked a K-State team since Elliot Hatcher and Tyrone Davis.

both kstate bball and fball are like my little kids and when i see one of them go up 14 in the second half on the road in ames and then lose the way they did last night it hurts. i basically just found out that my 3.0 gpa tenth grader and varsity cross country runner got busted for a dui at midnight with a nickel bag under the drivers seat while coming home from a party at red bridge when he was supposed to be spending the night at a friends house while working on a science project together. now his name is going to be in the mercury arrest report and all of our neighbors will know. just embarassing and frustrating. up 14. iowa state. jeez.

I've never reached not-giving-a-crap mode as a fan. I doubt I ever will. Its just not in me.

Only time this happened to me was the end of the 2008 football season.  Still watched the games but was completely disengaged for November.  Outside of that I've pretty much lived and died with the Cats.

That was the closest I've ever been. That football season was really hard.

FWIW, Asbury's final year was the closest for basketball.

It's fine to just get beat.  The referees took the game from us.

The refs weren't great, but they didn't take a 14pt lead.

I agree that you can't just forget about the time span from the 14 minute mark to the under 4 TO and losing the lead. And I'm never a "blame the officials" person.

But man, watching McGrud's get bumped and no call, then ISU goes to the other end and has less contact on a similar play and goes to the line...

As Wyatt said on the radio call: "I'm sorry, but that's a joke. That's just a joke."

I agree on two bad situ's, but there were plenty of times where we were very physical on D down low and no calls were made.  I think they were a little more touchy for them then for us, but gotta expect this in the Frank era since the book on us is that we rough folks up.  Sucks but our team has to expect it and game plan to overcome it.  Makes it that much tougher when we play like we have been.
