Frank's defense
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:01:48 AM »
A little breakdown of what K-State does really well under Frank: http://goEMAW.com/blog/?p=1786

I expect us to do something similar tonight, but we've got to get some offensive things fixed to win. Namely hitting some 3 PT shots and protecting the basketball. Still, it was interesting to see how often we force turnovers without creating steals.

On average opponents turn the ball over 2 out of every 4 or 5 times they possess the basketball. K-State’s defenses have forced turnover percentages of 22.4%, 23.8%, 23.6%, 22.2%, and 23.9% respectively (the national average is usually between 20-21%).

isn't a TO rate of 25% a turnover 1 out of every 4 possessions?

Yes, that should be 1, not 2. The goEMAW editor must have missed that.

You kind of touched on this when you mentioned charges, but I've noticed that the overplaying of passing lanes can make the opposition play faster than they're comfortable with. A lot of those backdoor cuts people make on us that even end up as shots result in quick misses because the player is just going too fast.

Yep. It seems like they make the cut/pass half the time because they feel like they should, like that's what is available to them, when it really isn't what they want to do.

I'm not saying it happens all the time. And again, the defense wasn't bad against OU. It was definitely good enough to win.

That was the frustration. The 2nd half they shot 33%. But we turned it over 1 out of every 3 possessions and only shot 41%.

It's clear that the un-tucks are just pissed about every rough ridin' thing.  Defense, substitutions, zones, whatever they pull from their rectums without an ounce of thought or bbiq.  Our real issue of late is our outside shooting....it's pretty simple un-tucks, take a glance at our 3 pt fg shooting and then figure out how to be furious at Frank about it.  And Poor 3 pt shooting causes a lot more problems than simply missed points on those missed shots.  It's incredible that we've been able to win 2 of our last 3.
