Frank and substitution...
« on: January 25, 2012, 01:23:07 PM »
Pretty decent: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/basketball/ncaa/wires/01/25/2060.ap.bkc.t25.deep.k.state.1053/

And this would be entertaining:

Quote
"If I was a football coach, I'd drive you guys crazy,'' Martin said with a sly grin. "I'd sub the quarterback - I'd sub everybody. If guys don't do their jobs, why should they play? I don't care what they did last year or last week, last game. You've got to do your job every day.''

Irving started four conference games before Martin replaced him with Rodriguez. And since coming off the bench, the veteran guard has been playing better than ever.

Do you think having a quick sub trigger helps players or hurts? One of the mizzou players mentioned that Haith, compared to Anderson, is more relaxed about mistakes and won't yank players so easy, which they liked. (obviously they're not deep at all, so they can't yank players).
Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.

Junior guard Martavious Irving is fast and strong, a good perimeter defender who can get to the rim and the foul line. Sophomore guard Shane Southwell gives the lineup more height, transfer Jeremy Jones can get off a shot as quickly as anybody, and freshman Adrian Diaz has instincts that allow him to always find the ball. Senior Victor Ojeleye epitomizes work ethic and leadership.

You know Stan said on 810 that Frank told him that, right? And that it started a maelstrom among the tucks?

I read the title and thought someone had stole my idea of a "Miami Shore" show where Frank is like DJamer Paulie D and has a buddy named "The Substitution" instead of "The Situation"

Yep, I heard Stan mention it as well. He was defending Frank (and his ways) to BITB at the time.

Of course it was defending Frank. Stanbot has no attack mode.

I think the players hate the substitution method, but even though they hate it, it makes them better. If they want to keep playing they won't make that same mistake again.

sometimes players need to learn to play through their mistakes.  not continual bullshit mistakes, but they need to be able to play without the fear of getting yanked.  just my imo on how to coach (i've got a very successful track record fwiw).

LOL @ FrankSpeak

I don't take guys out because they make mistakes

Also, I'm not sure if the substitution pattern or make a player a man convo is worse. Thoughts.

This is the only thing that ever frustrates me about Frank.  If he wants to pull somebody for doing something stupid then fine, that's his style of coaching.  The thing that drives me crazy is when Vic, Shane, Diaz, Jones, and Angel or Tay are all in together.  And yeah I know that combo might not happen a lot, but you get my drift.  It seems like once a game our announcer makes a comment like "oh wow look at this lineup, where is the scoring going to come from"?  We have a deep enough bench where we don't need to sacrafice 3 or 4 minutes of our worst players all playing at the same time.  Just wish he would mix and match a little better when he's in the pissed off subbing mode.

it was prob summer of 93 maybe?  ski masterminded a gem of an offense by employing the four corner offense, i designed the alley-oop backpick play (similar to the "jayhawk" play that KU runs) that i had the kids run.  all in all, it was a fabulous effort from the squad from montezuma.  colorado coach hated our guts for doing it.

I bet they had a long ride home after that one.
