EURO-CATS DOING JUST FINE
Basketball Wildcats are picking up in Europe right where they left off in their K-State days.

Curtis Kelly was recently named the Eurobasket.com Player of the Week while playing for Hapoel Tel-Aviv in Israel. Kelly is averaging 18.5 points per game on 53 percent shooting from the field.

Playing for Nitra in Slovakia, Denis Clemente is netting 18.7 points per game on a lofty 61 percent shooting from the field, while Jacob Pullen is averaging 15.6 points playing for Angelico Biella in Italy.

This prompted me to look into some of their most recent games:

Date: January 21, 2012
At the other side the best for losing team was Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (185-86, college: Kansas St., agency: KMG Sports Management) who recorded 31 points and 4 assists.

Date: January 21, 2012
American Curtis Kelly (205-88, college: Kansas St.) had a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners.

Date: January 18, 2012
American swingman Cartier Martin (201-84, college: Kansas St.) scored 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners.

Cartier is averaging 26.3 pts.

I wish more teams had video recaps like Angelico Biella (Pullen's team), would love to see our guys chewing the faces off their inferior opponents.

Honestly, playing in Europe would be amazing. You'd get to see a lot of cool stuff. The pay probably sucks, in comparison, but the rest of it has to be pretty nice.

If I am not mistaken, their housing is free and there are a butnch of other freebees that go along with it. My wife and I knew a KSU VB player who played for Spain and she got broke off BIG TIME!!!

in comparison to real life the pay is definitely amazing. And for some players, pay is competitive to the NBA if not better.

the pay doesn't suck.  it is commensurate with their bball abilities.

I mean. they'd all trade a 10 day NBA contract for it but for what they have it can't be bad.

I have a very good friend who played for 7 years in Italy and the pay is very good (obviously this is relative).  His contracts ranged from $350,000 to $550,000 per annum and the season is relatively short.  And of course housing, food, travel etc was all free.  When he played on the team owned by Armani, he got 2 free suits!

there are plenty of players in europe that could play in the nba if they wanted to.

no, but the number the players are told is usually their net, not their gross.

Denis has, by far, the coolest team name.

Nitra!
