« on: January 15, 2012, 03:27:46 PM »
The most successful coach in the modern era of ksu basketball?

or

The coach who could never win something that mattered?

based on kstaters' reaction to snyder, the former.  unless he leaves of course, then the latter.

It isn't very hard to be both.

The former.

I'd also wager to bet one Final Four appearance and at least two league titles over the course of the next 15 years.

I bet Frank isn't here ten years from now, let alone 15.  I would put the over/under on Frank's remaining years at 6.

this.

Although modern is a vague term.  Does it include Hartman?  If not then being the best out of kruger, altman, asbury and wooly is like congratulating someone for only getting prison  raped a few times.

I do think he'll be here six more years, especially with the training facility we are building for him coming on line.  The way you worded 2027, I was assuming you were talking about his legacy based on that entire duration.

I'm with Kim.  Unless, in your opinion, the only thing that matters is winning a NC, your post is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).  If that's the case, very few coaches ever winning anything that matters.

Hartman had three league titles, 72, 73 and 77.
It's arbitrary, but I'd mark the start of the modern era with the introduction of the 3-point line (1986) and expansion of the tournament to 64 teams (1985).
That would eliminate Hartman.
Others might say post-war or the first major expansion of the tournament, which allowed K-State to get the elite 8 as a second place Big 8 team in 1974.

hartman doesn´t.  kruger doesn't.  i'm not even sure if altman was modern era.  recruiting and exposure were just so different back then.

What matters?
Conference championships, top-25 rankings, success in the NCAA (a final-four would make Frank or any K-State coach a legend), beating rivals and, to a lesser degree, all-americans.

Things that matter: NCs, Final Fours, Big 12 championships
