Likewise on defense, Tay is our best on ball defender and its not close.   JO disrupts a ton of shoots inside of 8 feet.

i don't know if he's kstate's best on ball defender (i don't think he is, but really, none of our perimeter defenders are anything special), but it is certainly close.  he does not offer a substantial upgrade over the other guards.

agree on dob.

Question: who is our best on-ball perimeter defender?

southwell
ar-t
irving
spradler
mcgruder

jones

i'd listen to arguments on flipping mcgruder and spradler.  or ar-t and irving.

You would kougs, you would

You're right. Going zone out of timeouts--usually around the 12-min mark in the 2nd--has totally caught our opponents off-guard and disrupted their offense.

Chingon

The point is in the two, yes only two cases you are whining about our man-to-man defense was also horrible

Definitely the most versatile. I'd listen to an argument for him as best overall.

no, he is.  obviously he can't guard a 5'10" pg, but he does a better job on 3s than our 1s do on 1s.

I should not have said it wasn't close.   But i do think Tay is our best on ball defender.      His footwork is pretty solid and i think he does a pretty good job getting thru screnes.     There are times when he is off his game and looks like an average defender.     But most of the time i like what he brings for us on that end

Mediocrity on the recruiting trail means mediocrity on the court.

Mediocre recruiting, head games, crappy coaching; it's the perfect storm for a strong NIT run.

yes, but i wouldn't minimize ar-t's lateral quickness.  he has fantastic feet/body control/balance.

Knew we would miss Jake (obviously), but didn't realize we would miss his D this much. Getting killed by opposing pg's.

I didn't think we would have this much trouble staying in front of any guard.

Our over pursuit on defense is killing us right now.  No one is staying at home or providing reasonable help D.  All or nothing.

Spradsendruber getting abused on dribble drive after dribble drive is difficult to watch.

Nothing more threes from Sprads can't fix.

And more minutes for Nino and Vic.

I suppose you're right . . . but still would have preferred that another McORebs type player was squarely in the pipeline.
