mine is the old 20.  i think my optical drive has taken to scratching games too, as my MW2 disk got scratched without me ever taking it out of the tray.

This is cool. (ESPN on 360)
does your cable provider in T-town not carry ESPN?
Obviously it does. Why does that matter?
a better question would be why does ESPN on 360 matter?  why fire up the xbox to watch something you can watch without it?

Mods, please move this to the HTPC thread.

I have one like that.  Just moved it to the bedroom and installed Scene it on it (only game my wife will play with me).  left the good xbox in the living room for all other games.

Email from my buddy who works for Microsoft

Quote
“Project Natal” is now KinectTM for Xbox 360®

At our E3 2010 briefing this morning, we showed the world how Xbox 360 will transform the way everyone has fun. We removed the final barrier separating gamers and everyone else with the controller-free magic of Kinect. We demonstrated that everyone can join in — irrespective of age or game playing experience. Whether building friendships with exotic creatures through KinectimalsTM, experiencing the thrill of roaring rapids with KinectTM Adventures!, or taking your moves to the next level with Dance CentralTM – without a controller – anyone can jump in and play, just by using your body and your voice. I’m pleased to share that Kinect – launching in North America on November 4, 2010 and available in all markets by mid-November – will have more than 15 games and experiences.

Xbox LIVE: ESPN, Zune Movies & Music, Video Chat

We have long used E3 to demonstrate our leadership in online entertainment. Today’s banner announcement was the partnership between Xbox and ESPN to create a live, high-definition streaming sports service that will carry 3,500 events in its first year alone, including NCAA football and basketball, World Cup soccer, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and much more. But we didn’t stop there: Kinect is revolutionizing entertainment with voice and gesture – from Zune Movies and Zune Music, and our video chat service, through our collaboration with Bing and Windows Live Messenger – connecting living room to living room without requiring a controller or a headset.

World Premiere — Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3, Fable III

Even as we reach out to new audiences with new experiences, we recognize that much of our current success has been built on our unrivaled commitment to core gamers. The biggest blockbusters of this generation have made their home on Xbox 360, and this year is no different. We introduced Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3 and Fable III to tremendous applause. We revealed our partnership with Crytek to create Kingdoms, a completely new Microsoft Game Studios franchise from one of the most cutting-edge developers in the world. We announced that for the next three years, all add-on content packs for Call of Duty would debut first and exclusively on Xbox 360.

A new Xbox 360, built in Wi-Fi and a massive hard drive

To launch Xbox 360 into a new era of fun and entertainment, we surprised the world at E3 by unveiling our brand-new, sleek, sexy and silent Xbox 360. Positioned for the digital future, it has a massive hard drive and boasts the fastest Wi-Fi of any console. The new Xbox 360 will be shipping to retailers today and available in stores this week.

The interface to watch movies looked awful.  It looked much more awkward and clunky than just using a controller.

Some of the games look ok, but I don't want them forcing it to games like Zelda.

If you guys have any questions/concerns about Microsoft gaming stuff I can get them answered from the horses mouth.  My buddy is big wig type in the mobile device division, but is friendly with the game dudes.

I've always been interested if Microsoft would ever get in to the mobile gaming market. Perhaps to compete with Sony and Nintendo in that arena.

I agree with the service not going out and the internet being good, that is a good thing.  But their HD DVR boxes SUCK so BAD!!!  I set to record the IASIP that comes on monday nights, it recorded the first one and the last one, not the ones that come on at 8:30 and 9:00.  Both of them the sound kept cutting out every 10 seconds.  Directv was way better.

i think microsoft has been involved in the mobile gaming market for a long time.  iirc, rhea, the guy that coded OSP for RTCW went to work coding for them in their mobile market in the early part of this century.

iirc time warner made the decision a couple years ago to start programming their own software for their dvr boxes instead of leaving it to people who knew what they were doing...  since then they've had a lot of issues.  i don't use a dvr so I don't have the problems you mentioned.

Nintendo had a kickass E3.  3DS, Zelda, new Donkey Kong game, Kid Icarus game for 3DS...and holy crap the list of games in development for the 3DS is huge.

Sony, so/so.  Announced a new Twisted Metal game and "Playstation Plus", a subscription based model for premium services, all while leaving the regular PSN alone.
