I finally started Red Dead Redemption yesterday. I got ambushed twice. Assholes.

A woman will ask for help as you pass by then several guys jump out from hiding and ambush you. It's all random. Last night I heard the same lady and I ran away, circled back behind them and f'ed their day up bad.

Awesome. So is there enough going on to keep it fun? I was afraid without the big city to wander around in, things would get monotonous/tedious real fast.

I was really worried about the long hauls between cities. Honestly though, it's awesome. There are encounters with strangers that send you on tasks. Unlike GTA, there is a ton of really good story and characters here. You can hunt animals and scavenge for plants, both helping you level up traits and are easy money. The best part of all is the random encounters. You'll often walk by someone stealing something, someone being kidnapped, or a shootout. You can ignore it or help out. Lots of other stuff like treasure maps, too.

But if you don't want to travel, just set up a camp and go to wherever you stick your way point on the map.

I've spent hours playing poker, liar's dice, and horse shoes.  I am an undefeated arm wrestler in Mexico and New Austin.     I've mastered all 10 levels of each challenge and have the "LEGENDARY" outfit.  I'm 80% done with the game. 

Fun thing to do once you get to the great plains up north.  Take your sniper rifle, get up on a hill, and start knocking out those Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) buffalo.  Keep doing it. See what happens. 

Bears...  scariest thing I've ever encountered in a video game.  They stomp the crap out of you and make Cougars look like kittens. 

Blasting bald eagles feels good too. 

I love this game.  Best RPG I've ever played.

I've become more and more interested in Red Dead Redemption as I've heard about it. Wasn't interested in an Old West type game at first, might have to go purchase if the glowing reviews keep up. Even the glitches people have found are getting positive feedback (see cougarman). Not sure I should be spending the money on it, but eff, life's short so why not?

Mostly playing just COD and a little Left For Dead on live right now. Probably more soon. Just getting back into gaming after giving it up completely for the last couple years while school and work were really kicking my ass. Used to play on the PC a ton back in the day. Diablo. Civilization, Starcraft, RED ALERT (so sweet), WarCraft, SimCity, Max Payne, Descent, so many others... good times, good times.
