Video games master thread

Any other old people on the fence about Civ 5?  Some things look good, others don't.  Want to know if I should drop $50 or wait a year or two for some Gold pack.

It's very good.

Downloaded the demo on Steam.  Thought I had just been playing for 15 minutes, and it turned out to be an hour.

Pretty much fantastic.  Will probably buy soon.

Thoughts on Medal of Honor? Been told that game is for real.

I have it.  The graphics and sound are very good, but the online game play isn't as good as COD.  Not as many weapon options, you can't lie down, very limited "extras" and perks. 

I am picking up COD today on the way home, and will probably not play Medal of Honor again for a month or so.

i'm not going to play it just to play it.  i don't like how/what they've done with the game.  besides, this is the month of savings (new thing i invented a couple weeks ago) and i can't spend money in the month of savings.  i think i'll ask for another wii for christmas and play through the latest mario bros.

I was actually surprised with Black Ops so far. I expected it to be awful like WaW or trying too hard to be like MW2, but it's pretty decent and it actually has a flavor of its own. I love the way they have money and you can buy items and contracts.

I have only played online, haven't played the single player yet.  The money thing to buy perks and upgrades is kinda fun.  However, last night they had horrible connection quality, but imagine that they were slammed.  My game kept trying to start and it would kick the entire group back out the lobby...over and over....

I played 4 TDM's last night.  It was fun, the idea of having to buy the perks is kind of annoying.  there are optional challenges that are cool.  thank god there is an M16.  the LMG's that I tried sucked.  will report more later.

Most popular new games have this issue. Going from 15 people to 3 million overnight jacks with some things.

M16 with ACOG and silencer is money. The graphics aren't anything to write home about, but super lame? I can think of alot worse. It's still a buttery smooth 60 frames per second. I'd take that every day over slightly better graphics and stutter.

why didn't they just keep the same character models and mapping that was used in MW2?  Activision owns all of that intellectual property.  treyarch just sucks, that's why.  i'll be playing and mastering super meatboy while you clowns are playing craptastic world at war 2.

They're pretty mediocre. Either way, I'd take that and 60 fps any day.

Played Black Ops MP a bit more. Some thoughts-

Textures a bit a muddy in some places, but it's not that bad.

The biggest downfall compared to Mw2 are the sounds. The sounds of guns and explosions are much softer and not in your face. The ambient sounds made MW2 amazing with surround sound. It's just not as good in BO.

BO does a lot of small things right. Little tweaks make is a lot more enjoyable. Some examples- when playing a game with designations, like a big red "DEFEND A" over the search and destroy site, those tags actually fade out when you look at them so they don't obscure your vision. When making classes, you can actually copy classes so you can just modify an existing class instead of having to go off the default. And the obvious, you can back out and take the party with you.

The gun modifications are rough ridin' bad ass. My Famas looks amazzzzzzzzzzzing.

Finally, I really miss Hardcore Moshpit.

The funny thing is Super Meat boy was designed by 2 people in their basement.

ya.  at least they knew their limitations and worked within them, and in the end produced a great game.  treyarch is trying to play way out of their league.
