Honestly been thinking about getting an NES and a crapload of games. Vintage stock ftw.  Emulators are nice, but doesn't give me the "full experience" w/ the NES controller, pushing cartridge in, etc.

Honestly been thinking about getting an NES and a crapload of games. Vintage stock ftw.  Emulators are nice, but doesn't give me the "full experience" w/ the NES controller, pushing cartridge in, etc.

funny you say that.  when we started listing out old NES games a couple weeks ago i shopped around for one and some games, they're pretty available via Ebay, etc.  make sure and get one with a clean 27 pin connector.  but then i was thinking i don't want to soak $100 (w/ games) into one and you mentioned you were using an emulator so i figured i'd try that route.  started reading about them last night and downloaded one but i've never used them and am not familar with how to set it up.

The 72 pin connector got dirty but it's main flaw was the way it suspended the games and eventually it would bend, causing all the blinking red light problems and whatnot.  Best bet is to get the top loading NES, it had the same 72 pin connector but it never bent like that, so you would not have any problems.

As far as emulators go, no idea about the OSX thing but i'm sure one is available.  You have to download the emulator and then the ROMS for the emulator.  ROMS=Games. 

Just look up "NES ROM torrent" or w/e on Demonoid and there should be megaPAKS of roms.

Another thing w/ emulators, they are nice b/c you can "save state", meaning save the game at any point in time, like right before you crash your battletoad speeder in to a rough ridin' wall, and reload it to play it. No more restarting the level.

You can also load game genie codes in to them.

When you said you were looking for the "full experience" of the NES, I took that to mean putting it in and pushing it down.  For me, that's the ONLY way to go.

I'm not familiar with how the ROMS work and what folder to put them in, how to load them, etc.  I figured I'd go the emulator route until I can make it by a pawn shop to pick up the actual NES HW.  My guess is I can get one from a pawn shop cheaper than Vintage Stock or Ebay.

Craigslist would probably be a good resource too.  Or garage sales.

Roms are easy.  Download nestopia, download a ROM, file > open rom > play game or w/e

NBA 2K11 is going to be really fun. Elite gamers, does anybody know if there will be a college basketball game this year? ea sports or 2k sports...... Because this is just stupid if we dont have one. I say 2k starts up 2khoops.

Got the red ring of death on my xbox 360 a few months ago.  I wasn't going to spend the $$$ to get it fixed/buy a new one, so I put it up. 

Yesterday, in a moment of boredom, I went to xbox's website and found out that there was some sort of lawsuit, and they have to fix the red ring of death problem for free. 

Not really important, but I'm pretty excited about it.

No website, MS recognized the problem and extended the warranty against red rings to 3 years. This was ages ago.

i walked around the place for a week then sold the game on clist for $30.
pretty boring.  how can you like it better than RDD?  seriously?

also RDD update:  got my master survivalist and treasure hunter to level 10's.
trying to get master hunter but can't find a cougar, maybe i should go to nick & jakes!
