Peggy Po's!!
ROOOOOODNEYYY MCGRUUUUUUUUDER! What a game. 30 points, 2 3's. A HUGE bucket to bring it back to within 1. Defense, scrappy plays to keep balls alive, led the team in rebounds, LED THE TEAM PERIOD. Best performance in a losing effort since Jacob's final game. Rodney has been incredible. He is clearly ready to be All-Big 12 NOW. He got in to the lane and destroyed their zone. He still got to the lane against their man. He got to the line. He made every free throw. He was a monster. I cannot say enough positives. It was an unbelievable performance. I was happy to see it. I was proud to be there. Rod, you can do this. Pullen had a goofy side-kick big, but he put the team on his back. You are being asked to do it a year early. But I believe now. I really beleive. I see the fire. You could always play, now you can lead.
Shane's lobs to DOB
Going to Sandstorm early and often Before the tip? Love it. DJamer Johnno is closer than you fools think.
Scott Drew's glorious meltdown wherein he took off his necktie This may be why I am so upset he won. Scott Drew's meltdown would've taken on mythic proportions and been LOL'd about for years to come. Instead, I'm thinking about Frank's rinky-dink in-bounds plays, our guards melting down, our inability to find a secondary 3 point shooter other than Rodney.
Posting up Rod This was good for two points and we went to it two to three times. I would've liked to see it one or two more times. It should be a bankable 2-6 points a game for Rod and it helps because we are so bad about getting him touches that Frank needs to call set plays. He called a curl for Rod that worked as well. Frank needs to take a more involved role in getting Rod the ball because he is not going to demand it and our team does not seem to understand the urgency of the hot hand when you are playing for the game. But this is not NN, so I'll move right along to more sunshine.
Angelito's swag Kid is not afraid to try and put the team on his back. He showed some flashes of Pullen - Composure. Hopefully that will come. His three pointer to take the lead was a HUGE shot. His drive to the bucket should've been passed to Rod for a wide open corner 3 for the win. That is who you want taking that shot. He gets tunnel vision sometimes, but the raw materials are there for a monster. It is easier to see now than it was for me before.
JO DOB!
Mar-Mar-Mar-MAR-TAY-VIOUS first ten minutes were his finest as a Wildcat. 6 points, commanding the game, comfortable on the ball, a steal. Then he lost the script....Which brings us to........
Nancy Neg's!![/i][/b]
Backcourt- all of em, line em up, #teamangel, Will, Tay, Shane We go through a stretch where Jamar, Will, Tay, Angel, Thomas and Shane all throw the ball to the other team for points. We hustle. We scrap. We hit three three pointers with Angel getting the last to take the lead. Then two minutes later it is a complete meltdown. Everyone in the league wants to play defense against Angel. Sure you may get burned once or twice, but you will look like a hero on tape. You will make Sportscenter playing against Angelito. He cannot be trusted to maintain composure and thus cannot be trusted with the game. Really though, it wasn't all his fault. It was everyone melting down that made Frank turn to Angel. Tay and Will have a lot to answer for after that. Will and Tay are supposed to safeguard the basketball and run our offense. Instead, they allowed themselves to get eaten alive by Baylor's guards. It was disgusting to watch.
Shane Go sit down. No one cares you throw a nice lob. Also, maybe try to turn yourself in to half as good a rebounder as McGruder. You play so scared and hesitant on the boards it is sickening.
Bad stats: Rebounding (outboarded 1st half), FTR 1st half, Assist/Turnover Rate for us and them
TURNOVR by Rodriguez, Angel 03:30
03:29 STEAL by Acy, Quincy
03:26 71-71 T 6 GOOD! LAYUP by Acy, Quincy [FB/PNT]
03:26 ASSIST by Heslip, Brady
TURNOVR by Rodriguez, Angel 03:17
03:16 STEAL by Acy, Quincy
03:14 71-73 V 2 GOOD! DUNK by Acy, Quincy [FB/PNT]
JO's absurd line violation
The referees Called 15 fouls on Baylor in the first ten minutes of the second half, then realized everyone on Baylor was about to foul out and swallowed their whistles. The walk on Gip was terrible, the two-handed shove that Acy got to pull down an O-board was terrible, Will had a clean block turned into a shooting foul. The general flow and pace of the game was impossible for either team to figure out. Baylor dared the referees to foul them out and the refs backed down. Kansas State seemed unwilling to match that physicality. Jamar could not handle it down low, Gipson did not match it consistently, JO..moving on, our guards were terrified and shook. It was a disaster apart from McGruder and the occaisional lob to JO to DOB. I mean outside of Tay's first ten minutes that is more or less the entirety of our offensive production for the game. What a crap show.
JO specifically (our bigs in general) on ball screens at both ends Tape will look AWFUL. JO at least twice just went out there and stood at a spot two feet off the ball handler and backed away (making himself small) and readied to receive a pass all the while the guard is getting a brutal double team. It was pathetic, it was poor fundamentals, it was cowardly. In addition, our "wrinkle" to do the little KU pop out by the big on ball screens was terribly implemented and left our bigs out of position and completely screwed our defense leading to easy points at least twice. As bad as our guards were, they did not get much help from the bigs off the ball on either side of the floor.
#teamangel again Not Angel personally, but all the people who will not acknowledge the real shortcomings posted by non-haters. STFU already.
Jamar and WIll What a disaster. Go sit in the corner. You deserted Rod. Left him out there alone while you indulged yourselves in lazy, selfish, rudderless basketball.
Frank We talked about this last week. In-bounds plays are not the ONLY thing, but they are A thing. When you have one in bound play to run to get a shot for the tie or the win, I'd like to see something better than an aspirational toss toward the rim. It was horrific. It was inexcusable. It was poorly drawn (a crude stick figure of a Bill Self play), clearly not practiced much, and poorly executed. Terrible all around. Now go read your effort rant to yourself and put in some work on new in-bounds plays that don't embarass the entire institution.
GOATS UP!
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING ANGEL?! GET HIM OUT! NOW! OUT!
"Will. You suck."
"JAMAR!!!!!!"
Frank "Out coached by Drew, well now I've seen it all."
In bounds play "Well, see you next time. I'm not sticking around for post-game."
GOATS DOWN
ROOOOOOOODNEEEEY MCGRUUUUUUUUUDER!!!!! FOR THREEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
