Anyone remember why?  I was looking at the Wikipedia Thorpe Award page and it said they had a re-vote in 1996 because he withdrew his name.   :dunno:

because it wasn't a fair contest.  made it an "who was the best other than Canty" award.

This. " What's the point?" he wondered.

Yep, it was a DUI.  Got it driving home after a party that was the announcing of bowl selections, I believe.

He apparently had pulled the ballots to win the Thorpe award, but Snyder, as part of his punishment, had him withdraw his name from consideration (balloting done by then, but announcement wouldn't have been until later).

Man that sucks.  I'm sure it was an anybody-but-this-guy kinda thing though.  I think at that point people didn't want to believe K-State was for real.  But damn... the early 2000s sure changed that perception.  Good to see KSU's making us proud again!   :lynchmob:

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Was that the year that he flipped the eff out on his mom for bringing Kool-Aid Bursts instead of Squeezits?

There may be confusion with another individual or another event related to the Thorpe Prize. I cannot find that information.
