K-State will match up in the second round Friday against a coach who steered Iowa State from the Big Eight into the Big 12 while coaching the Cyclones from 1994-98.Tim Floyd is in his second year at UTEP and guided the Miners to a 61-48 victory against Clemson on Thursday.“We’re a young, young team,” Floyd said of a roster containing seven freshmen. “We won like we did back in the Big 12, playing some ugly basketball.”A big smile came across Floyd’s face when asked about former K-State coach Jim Wooldrige, his old college teammate at Louisiana Tech. The two maintain contact at least twice a week, Floyd said, with Wooldridge in his fifth season as the head coach at Cal-Riverside.“Talk about a guy who just couldn’t catch a break (at K-State). How many one-point games did they play with him there?” Floyd recalled. “He’s the best, best friend a guy could ever have. I love him.”
Hard not to like Jimmy Wooldridge.
I'll never forget Wooly's best SLTH loss.Drew Lavender going coast to coast in 4 seconds for the game winning layup. Second might be blowing an 8 point lead with 1:15 to go to lose to an average Ostate team.Jim was a legend. He could grab defeat from victory from anyone.

The game wasnt on tv so you had to listen to wyattvision and we went to overtime and loss. Just a great Wooly memory. Long live the neckbrace!
