Finally got our rooms booked.  Ended up going with:

4 nights Grand Hyatt Kauai
1 night St. Regis Princeville Kauai
5 nigts Westin Maui

Booked ocean view rooms at the St. Regis and Westin which was an adnl 2,500 SPG a night.  We will hopefully get an automatic upgrade to Ocean view for being Hyatt Platinums which I wasn't aware came with the Hyatt Chase Visa until recently.  All free other than $25 hotel charge per day for parking.  Flights are free on BA miles.  Total 11 nights when you include the red eye home.  Should be pretty elite.  Were going to go with the Sheraton Kauai instead of the Hyatt but they have some construction going on during our dates and all the beach side stuff is going to be tore up.

Met this little emaw'er in Hawaii as well. Told him I went to K-State and he wouldn't shut up about Bill Walker. Had about a 30 minutes conversation with him about how he practices his 'Billy Walker spin move' for about 2 hours every day.

Westin.  Got upgraded to a room at the very end of the Beach Tower because we are SPG Gold and had a very nice view.  It was only at about 70% capacity according to the front desk so it wasn't that busy but I can see how it could be a pain if it was full.  was also told that that Westin had the most SPG points redeemed for stays of any SPG property last year.  I enjoyed the property though.  Spa was nice and small.  I don't like large spa complexes with 75 greasy freakos in the whirlpool at one time.  We didn't rent a cabana.  I was about 1 inch from a 6 ft barracuda on black rock the last day we were there.

the back side of hana is kind of dirt road for a bit and there are some sketchy one lane bridges and stuff but it's really not bad.  it is less curvy than the front side which is painfully curvy.  if I got carsick I imagine I would have gotten sick the first 5 minutes in.  We don't scuba or surf but snorkeled black rock and Honolua Bay in Maui.  On Kauai we snorkeled Ship Wreck, Poipu and off the Napali Coast.  We did this sailboat trip thing on the Napali Coast which was pretty great.  tons of dolphins/turtles/seals and junk.  Looks like this (not my pic):
