Because the current AD at K-State wasn't going to cave and pay a 70 year old guy some absurd sum of money, when he had already been paid millions of dollars the first time around and given a $1 million dollar annuity after his first retirement.
Just because Lew Perkins tossed around cash like a drunk and ended up saddling ku with over $10 million dollars in buyouts (partially for himself, nice job Lew!!) . . . that's why ku athletics has gone from operating well in the black, to literally breaking even, as in NO net revenue reported in FY 2011, none.
