Cotton Bowl
« on: November 13, 2011, 05:12:09 PM »

My question is, what must we do?  Lay out some scenarios.  Sure, beating down our rivals in this year's football incarnation of the Chisolm Trail, but what else must occur?

I think I love this bowl more than any of the other ones (Fiesta included) for sentimental DOD reasons.  When we finally went in 1996 we had really "arrived" in DOD Volume 1.  And just the thought of another 45,000 Wildcats fans caravaning down I-35 and pep rallying it up really gets my blood pumping.

Honestly, beat UT and hope they lose a 4th.  That's assuming both Oklahoma schools go BCS games.

I think we'll still make it to the Cotton Bowl even if we finish 1-1 in these last two games.

The entire DFW metroplex, including Jerry Jones, desperately want the Cats in the CB.

Disregard this.  Forgot UT lost to Missouri this weekend.

"The Sugar Bowl hosts the Southeastern Conference (SEC) champion unless (under the current BCS alignment) the team is selected to play in the national championship game; in that case the Sugar Bowl can select a team at-large from any conference as the host team. "

I'm not saying its likely but by some fluke happening where Bama loses out we could possibley get chosen depending on our BCS rank. Which with only Georgia Southern and Auburn left, isnt very likely. And with Boise out of the BCS picture now it opens up anotehr spot for a 2 loss BCS school to take the Sugars at large bid.

If OU beats OSU, I think OU and OSU could be in the BCS.  However, if OSU gets passed up by the BCS, Cotton will surely pick them.

If OSU beats OU, a two loss OU team gets picked by the Cotton Bowl, IMO.

Unfortunately, I don't really see how we get into the Cotton unless we win out and BOTH of the Oklahoma schools go to the BCS.   :frown:

I suppose it's possible that OU could lose at Baylor, but I don't think either they or OSU will lose to ISU.

OU losing to Baylor and OSU would put us in the Cotton bowl if we win out.

theres 4 BCS at large spots. If OU plays OSU close they'll still get in to a BCS. We're assured a Cotton Bowl bid in my eyes and possibley sneak into a BCS bowl depending on how things play out.

Does a 10-2 cats team get an at large BCS bid over OU if they lose their last game by 3 td's?

We need OU to beat OSU and have neither one lose another game.  OU would go Fiesta, OSU would get another BCS bowl with only one loss.  We will need to win out to hold up our end of the deal.  That's it folks.

Big question that I'm not sure anyone knows the answer to yet:  Will the Sugar, Orange, or Fiesta pick a 1 loss Boise St. over any of the options belos:

a) 2 loss Va Tech/Clemson (who could have 3 as they still have S. Car and Va Tech)
b) 2 loss BigTen team (could really be any of 5 at this point and this team would also have to not play in their CCG.  The loser of their CCG will have 3 loses)
c) 2 loss OU/1 loss OSU

I have a very hard time seeing how the Big12 doesn't get 2 BCS bids.  If OSU wins out then the Fiesta has 2 at-large bids, no way they pass on a 2 loss OU team TWICE to take 2 of the above or BE Champ.  Are they really going to pass up a 2 loss OU for a 2 loss ACC team, a 2 loss BigTen team, a 1 loss Boise St., or the BE champ.  I don't see the Fiesta Bowl shunning their conference partner for 2 of those teams.  I guess they could take Stanford and Boise, but then I don't see either the Sugar or Orange passing up OU for any of those teams either.

Has a BCS conf ever gotten three teams into BCS games?

There's 10 spots, 5 AQ's.  Houston is the only mid-major that has a shot at one of those at large's, hopefully the BCS tells them to fuckoff.  ACC, and Big East should be forbidden from sending more than one team this year.  That leaves 5 spots for the SEC, Big 12, big 10 and PAC second and third placed teams.  If Stanford wins out I could see them getting a draw.  The big 10 is so down they could only get 1.  That leaves 4 spots for SEC and Big 12.

pls check my math

No, and the only way a conference can have 3 BCS teams is if they have the #1 and #2 teams, and neither of which are their conference's champ, in which case the conference champ still gets their automatic tie in.

If I go to the Cotton bowl, I'm buying seats at the very tippy top of the upper deck along the sideline.  I'm not going to pay extra to sit down low.  Nope.  I'll sit in my cheap seats and watch the sucker on that big TV of theirs.

I will use the money that I save for nachos, hot dog sandwiches, and drinks.
