Big 12 Defensive Standings

Rush Defense #2
Pass Efficiency Defense #8
Pass Defense #9
Total Defense #3
Scoring Defense #4
Sacks #6

I'm not a Cosh defender, and I wish we had a different D-Coordinator, but it's just not us. The offenses in this league are just too good. When you have Kent State rank something like #33 overall in defense, that shows the national numbers are flawed also. I bet we'll finish the year around 60 or 65, which would be good for a Top 3 defensive showing in the Big 12.

So by your logic, as long as the Big 12 offenses are crap we can look forward to a good year defensively? That is bullshit - the "Well, we cant do anything against them because - darnit, they are just better than us" line of reasoning is pretty short-sighted. OBz isn't going to bring in high caliber recruiters and that's why we can't compete. We can hang around for the first half of games with the OUs of the world and once we're figured out, were done. He's going to stick with his little staff of Gepettos and hope that they can carve 4-5* recruits our of a 2* block of wood. Here's a hint - its not going to happen, not with the classes we're bringing in and not with his staff. Mediocraty, get used to it.
We are K-State and we love to hire SHlTTY coaches.

if mediocrity means embarrassing the crap out of KU and MU...ranked...and the Cotton Bowl...meh, I'm on board.

I want a BCS bowl and a championship every year too..but what percentage of football programs get that? and oh by the way...3 of them were caught blatantly cheating. Ohio State, USC, Oregon

How do you think OU feels ranked #45? They have all the talent in the world and can't be a top 10 defense. Or a Top 25 defense. All I'm saying is the national rankings are misleading, not that our defense is any good.

We won't be goaline standing/returning kicks for wins every game next year or thereafter.  Our defense will just get us blown out in those games.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Still plenty of time for a very good aTm offense to hang 50 on us and then for us to lose to an improving Texas team. Picking up two wins over the next two weeks would verify that significant progress was made this year.

The offenses at OSU and OU aren't going anywhere.   With Harsin now at Texas running their offense, they stand an excellent chance of getting more prolific, if WVU joins the league it will be more of the same style offense, and then of course Tech and Baylor.

So either ramp up the personnel, and coaching or just be prepared to have to go out and put 50 plus on the board every Saturday to have a chance at winning, and I believe our offensive staff is capable of putting points on the board against MOST teams, but still, the point remains.

last 2 weeks, each qb had a career day..flashbacks to running backs getting career days against us last year.  Our defensive ranks would be MUCH worse if we didn't have an offense that controls the ball for 35-40 minutes each game.  Would love to see our d ranked by yards per play.  Bet we're close to dead last.

yards per play is a stupid statistic to keep track of.  You don't lose by giving up more yards.

For us, points per possession seems to be the only meaningful defensive stat.

This is a great point.  Why do they even keep track of yards?

Last year we ran a 4-2-5 and couldn't stop the run, but we were much better against the pass.

This year we run a 4-3 and are pretty good against the run, horrible against the pass.

Is next year the year that Cosh decides to use both defenses and adjust to different situations with different looks? Probably not, but it is a nice thought.
